The stock exhaust is just loud enough to hear it, any quieter and it would be a Buick. You want loud? try a 477ci V8 running dual 3 inch pipes cut off before the rear end with turn downs, you have to scream to talk if you are within 20 feet of it!. Not my car but a buddies and it was street driven, thing would SCARE people you drove past! LOL

you must be measuring the exhaust tip
measure the actual pipe's circumference, do some math, and figure out the diameter

Not to sound like a richard, but I have been racing for the past decade, built numerous cars from the ground up, and can tell the differance between the exhaust tip and the rest of the exhaust.

The diameter is 9 1/2 to 10 inches, which is much larger than a 2 1/2 pipe. (8 1/2 inches).

The purpose of my original post is to confirm if the exhaust that I have is stock or not. (great job by the way, It obviously is not).

the next question is, is there a 3 in exhaust kit out there or was this a custom job.

The car only had 6400 on it and the dealer that I took it to said that it was stock. I believed him.

Yeah your really not going to get very low with the exhaust note on the cobalt. The SRT-4 has .4 liters on the SS/SC and a turbo as well. The turbine breaks the exhaust pulses and adds a distinct sound. So basically if you want a seeper note bore your block throw on a stoker kit and turbo it. Cams wouldnt hurt either. And umm 5.0 guy I saw 614ci V-8 with a blower on the top in a 71 mustang, now that was loud. The best part is it was daily driven.
