Made my D.I.C red, but I dont get it? (pics)

I took off the blue tint and replaced it with transparent red film but the text looks white (yes I know what red does to green) but I've seen cars on here with red text... and the display looks sorta dim as well, considering putting blue film back behind it if I dont figure out why it looks like this.

How have other people here done it? I taped the film onto the back of the gauge face, have others tinted the actual lcd/led board? I'd just like a red or white DIC the greens sorta nasty

Interesting mod! i'd love to try this and honestly wouldn't mind white text haha

how did you remove the greenish film though? just peel it off or something?

lol yeah my dad and 2 other friends said they like it to but I'm convinced it looks wrong

and just take some acetone and rub the back of the DIC window and the blue tint comes right off not too much acetone though just a bit on a Q tips enough then clean with glass cleaner, if it clouds over a bit some mquires scratch remover makes it crystal clear again.

I picked up some transparent coloured file folders from the Dollar store (ty rains crusader) and one of the colours in there is the same blue as the stock color so if all else fails I'm ok and it looks good in person but I'd just really like red/red text or black w/ white text.

gotcha. i have red film i had used for trying something like this already but didn't know how to remove the oem film without damaging the gauge face. good luckwith finding a solution; i'd bet adding another layer to the actual screen would just make it all too dark to see.

yeah I added another layer of red and it made it too dark, I tried yellow, looked pretty funky lol. I actually liked a dark blue...made the text a deep readable blue and if I can't get the red sorted out I'll the dark blue over it, odly enough the blue/yellow kept the DIC pretty bright and easy to see.

The good news is this is isn't pentameter and I can get the cluster outta my car in minutes haha but if anyone with a red or white DIC knows please chime in because I do like the red look I just dont know what I did wrong

and try it riceburner see what result you get, the DIC stock film whipes off with no effort I found

You put acetone on clear plastic. That's why it looks fucked up. Either its ruined or there's a film on it. Micro fiber cloth and WATER. Try that.

no if you read it I just explained how it did cloud up (just a little bit) but I was able to get it totally clear again with scratch remover and window cleaner and trust me I made sure it was clear as glass before putting it back together again. I did try it first without acetone but it didn't work.

I put the face back in WITHOUT tint once to see what the readout looked like and it wasn't cloudy, and yet these folder films are transparent as well so IDK whats going on, and only the red/purple make it look this way, but the dark blue/green/yellow look clear but then I dont get a red or white text, anyone whos done the red/pure white please chime in because thats the color I'm really going for

TL;DR the DIC window is completely 100% crystal clear

Don't use acetone. I recommend using 99% isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Is a little less harsh. The fuzzy looking DIC is from the file folders since they areNt completely clear. Mine is the same way. To fix this, look into stage lighting gels. They are more clear and transmit light better. I suggested the file folders because they are cheap and readily available. In don't have a stage supply shop nearby so I would have had to order some from the web and they usually cost $7 a sheet. Play with different colors to get the red look. I'm not sure which filter is needed to go from green to red. Red filter turns green to white.
Keep is posted!

Well I guess Acetone was the hard way, I dunno I just saw it on someone elses thread that did it :P glad I was able to fix it though. I'll look into some other medium to change the colour though, well maybe or I'll leave I suppose it'll be something I change out of boredom lol

As long as your DIC window is clear, no harm no foul. Acetone really does a number on plastic though. Have you done the radio yet? I left the tint on mine alone and just put the filter behind the faceplate. It's a little dim in daylight. I may remove the tint or look for a solstice radio face and swap the display plastic.

I haven't done the radio yet, I thought I'd start with the gauge face as it was the easiest but yeah I dont know if I'll fiddle with that.

lol thats good, I didn't say you were wrong, the acetone did fog it over a bit but like I said, I was able to fix it

well now that the DIC window is clear I'll experiment a bit on a rainy day with differnet mediums, might have to look into the lighting thing rains said

see the difference between my DIC and my radio display? I used the same file folder for both but I removed the tint from the cluster and not the radio face

My radio is an 07-08 radio. It uses 11 small phillips head screws to secure the faceplate circuit board to the faceplate. Not sure what the 09-10 radios use. In my 05 radio, there were small bolts holding it in place, I just used a set of pliers turned on their end. they aren't torqued down tight so that was a solution. Just take care not to scratch the circuit board. I think they were 4 or 4.5 mm though.

yeah mine looks like yours does at night^ like it's pretty bright at night when you can't see the red film, hell maybe I'm just being fussy, I think it's the red on white in the day thats throwing me off.

I'd love to make my radio bright white as well but I'm too chicken to try and clear my radio screen. Oh and I did take my radio out and looked at it and mine is a '10 and it has like 10(10?) tiny tint bolts holding it I didn't have a socket small enough to fit them, and the lighting is done through light pipes

You'll find, you won't notice the fuzziness after a few days. It really looks good IMO.

pontiac solstice

The early G6 radios have red text. It's got to be as simple as finding the right light filter.
