May be selling the balt...
Anybody else ever looked into an SRT-4 so we can compare insurance rates. For me - 314 as I said previously.
But like all of those before said, his logic makes no sense. There is no reason that 1) By him fixing and trading in a car with a significantly weaker engine, 2) Purchasing a vehicle that likes to be launched sideways because of the torque steer that he knows nothing about with fwd cars, and 3) his aforementioned accident will not equal a lower insurance rate. Insurance companies aren't blind. They will try to discourage him from buying an srt-4 because of three simple things. his accident, his age and his prospective car, a srt-4. He is a serious risk to any company providing insurance, and you know that as well as I do. Not to jump on you but I see you say that you had your father cosign on the lease, are you under your parents insurance as well? I see you are from canada but he is claiming Georgia and they are known for having high speed fatalities, on highways no less.
You younger guys need to pay attention to what some of us are saying. I had an '87 pontiac 6000, a two ton beast that could run over almost anything and you still feel safe. We aren't so surprised by these f/i cars because we have had the time to build up to that point...gradually. You need to treat these cars with respect because someone who doesn't understand how to handle them can end up in a hospital or dead really quick. I am not saying you shouldn't get it; if you got the money then by all means, but at that age that is not what you need.

With his age and now one wreck on his record it will be hard to get put into another car. And if he goes with a semi-older car his insurance will be higher cause of safety options the car does not offer. I hate to say it but his best bet right now. Some type of jap car like a honda or toyota. One that is a few years old like an 04 or newer and with probably about 50k+ on it cause if you try and go new with that trade it just will not work cause of negative equity and no credit.
Can most 16 year olds handle a fast boosted car? No. Why not? Lack of better judgement usually ends up forcing their right foot to the floor. Is it possible for a 16 year old to have enough common sense to keep the car under control? Hmmm...
Food for thought.
hahaha that made me laugh.

wait, so you think you're going to pay less on an srt-4?
what do you do that you're 16 and can afford a car in the first place? and guys don't take this the wrong way, but no 16 year old should have a fast car like an srt-4. they just don't have the experience to be driving something that fast.

After getting the BILL i decided not to go with the srt-4, it's gonna be 2600 to fix my cobalt. That'd make about 18K into the car, it only has 7K miles on it. I'll NEVER get the amount of money back out of the car that i put into it, It's basically a better deal to keep it and drive it cause i KNOW what happened in the accident(no engine damage) and anyone trying to buy it would lowball like crazy and for good reason--salvage--
I'm going to guess i just don't want a car like the srt-4 because of insurance and not getting my worth out of it.
I'll keep the balt, do some mods for appearance, get new rims and better than the shitty continentals on there now, and maybe brake upgrades?Idk about that.
And probably lower it and do some handling mods(strut/sway bars, etc.)
I'm not a speeding driver, in my defense, i do have mods for speed, CAI, exhaust, but the only reason i wanted them was for gas mileage.
Thanks for all the advice for the people that actually gave it.
also thanks for the -22 rep points, ha.

Good choice. With the rims get light weight So they doen't hurt your braking. As for the speed mods being for gas mileage, save that BS for your 'rents. I like speed mods and like to play, just admit it and do it someplace safe. practice hard braking in a empty parking lot. Be safe and have fun with the 'balt.

My first car (@17) was a 72 nova SS with a 427 BB. It took me 3 years of part and full time work to restore. It didn't have anti lock brakes but it's still in my garage today with out a scratch (i'm 32 now) . I was so worried i'd wreak it after all that hard work , that i was super alert when driving it . Still am .
