alright so as a graduation present my dad offered that i could trade in my car for something reasonable and he would payt he difference in payments.
Now i love my cobalt but im basically thinking either
used 05 STI
orrrrr
used 6.0 GTO
Ive found both for prices taht are very reasonable and im leaning towards the goat but i was just wondering what your guys' opionions are on these cars.
My only concern is that the GTO is discontinued but will that help or hurt resale value?
thanks, taylor

Some other things to think of like the guys above insurance increases, gas for bigger engines, what are you gunna use it for stuff like that i would actually get the EVO if you were gunna get a AWD
Please clarify. Has the Cobalt become "unreasonable"? Is keeping it an option? If money is an issue I don't see the GTO being a better alternative. Keep the Cobalt.
Neither will help you with that. The GTOs are not that fast, so if you are looking for fast, go with the STi. Every 6.0 GTO I've seen run at the track hasn't impressed me yet. Also, I don't know about you, but in my area, its really hard to find a manual GTO....they are all autos.

I say, go with the STi. They hold their resale value in a killer way.

The GTO is a lot more subtle than the STi, and most of the major components are shared with other GM vehicles, so I wouldn't worry to much about the part availability. It is actually a decently reviewed car, decent ride and handling, good power, a little heavy, designed and built in Australia to a much higher standard than most of Pontiac's line. It just looks boring. I'd say the GTO would make a much better daily driver than the STi, unless you regularly have to drive in low traction environments.
Anyway, I've seen two manual GTOs for sale in my area in the low 20s in the last couple months, so they are out there.
But lastly, speaking from personal experience, unless your Cobalt is starting to show serious wear and tear, I'd just keep it and ask your dad to help with other expenses. I consider the Cobalt a perfectly reasonable (and affordable) car...which is why I traded my turbo Jetta for it.

SRT-4! = lots of potential, and makes a GTO look stupid when it scorches past it with very few mods. I'm thinking about picking one up and leaving my cobalt as it is for a nice daily driver.
Ask your dad to help you with buying the Hahn turbo kit
.
What I would REALLY do if it was MY life is to take those extra payments your dad would offer - the xtra 100 bucks a month or whatever and pay off your Cobalt faster.
That'll improve your credit a LOT more than paying off this loan really fast and getting another loan where you are automatically upside down.
Paid off new car+good cred+house > better, new car.

get the GTO... end of story
Build your credit dude, however you can. My fiancee's parents babied her crap, bought her a car after college, etc.. her bank wouldn't even give her a credit card because she had NO credit whatsoever.
That's just my $0.02 whenever someone starts talkinga bout this kinda stuff. I've ruined and rebuilt my credit once in my life already. It sucks. Credit runs this damned country.
