I just changed my oil to RP and I hope in did the right choose. What you guys think? They are so many Oil Company’s out there competing with each other. That all I want is the best stuff for my car.

honestly.. none of you are gonna really "FEEL" the difference because mobil 1 and RP are very good oils...

but if you were using Pinnzoil or **** oil like that... you would prolly notice a difference switching to a class 4 synthetic like RP

I had to change my oil today so I drove over to advance auto... looked at back of both royal purple and mobil1<which I've always used... I prolly would of bought r/p just to try but I'm too hard on my car for it blow up cuzz I didn't put the "factory specified correct oil" in and blow the motor.. my srt-4 which I dont know if was factory filled with mobil1 but at 1800 miles had mobil1 Turbo's break the oil down a hell of alot faster then the ss/sc could ever think of and never had a problem ...well engine wise ... wiring was what killed my srt

You don't know the definition of "Fully synthetic" do you? Only a group 4 oil is full synthetic. M1 is not a full synthetic.

Is M1 good? Yes it is but it's not AS good as RP

Doesn't that image of the approved GM oils list M1 as a Group 4 oil?

so i went looking and multi window searching for anything at all about mobil 1 being group 3 and nothing not a single real article said anything. There were some forums like ours that tried to argue with no proof or links and sites that tried to argue the '1' in the name mobil has but not a single press release or news article against mobil saying it wasn't fully synthetic and not a group 4 oil.

all I have to say is royal purple does make my ss feel a little more free.

And just because gm recommends mobile1 doesn't mean squat. They probably own part of mobile1.

They also recommend dexcool. And that stuff is highly coorosive to alluminum heads. I'm getting mine flushed and putting in Peak.

On most sites they relate the "service number"., to an actyal number. They are API ,American Petroleum Instite", gradeings. They will give you the TWO LETTER oil designation as you see it on any, and every, bottle of oil. The one site I found was fairly current as they were talking about GL5 which won't be released till next year, 2011. As I understand it the NUMBER should tell you more about the ADDITIVES that EVERY oil contains in varying combinations and quantities. Fact is MOST synthetic starts from the same base stock with the only differance being in the additives. The same as MOST gasoline works the same with MOST brands of gasoline that come out of the SAME storage tanks and have their additives added as the tanker loads the product and as determined by a computer the driver has to program according to the loading sheet. As a driver for a 3 truck owner I delivered to so many branded stations I can't remember them all.

Here are acouple of sites I found. for the oil question.

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx (Amsoil's recomendation and what I'm using)

http://www.upmpg.com/pdf/api_motoroil_guide.pdf

http://www.api.org/certifications/en.../new/index.cfm

Happy reading.

I'm in the same dilemma but I think with the new HPS RP with Synerlec will prove far superiority from Mobil 1. Here is a video of the demonstration.

[URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dEFGJqpCMY&feature=feedu"[/URL]

My doubt is, in that test which RP performance much better than the others is because they are not using Mobil 1 Extended Performance instead just the normal/common one.

Instead of confirming something with more information, we get more confuse. Every manufacturer will try to look their oil the best is the only thing I could say.

Pennzoil Ultra 5W30 is what I've switched to since 12K mi

VI 169
Flash Pt 435F
Pour Pt -49F

But it's not just these #s alone to consider.

Found this interesting observation from a TC owner on another board:
It's actually based on UOAs...M1 vs Pennzoil Ultra!!

Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Ultra??? - AR15.Com Archive

I have been running M1 in my daily drivers for years, but after a few less-than-stellar UOAs in my LNF Ecotec, I decided to switch to Pennzoil Ultra since the UOAs I've been seeing for that have been impressive. I haven't been driving the Cobalt during the winter, but did make the switch in my LS2 as well even though (with the exception of the Sodium, which we're speculating was from the previous owner's oil) the previous UOA looked good

You should be more clear with your product if you are a dealer.

Amsoil 100% synthetic is exactly that.

Amsoil XL series is also "synthetic" like Mobil 1 is. But not a true synthetic. Same goes for the the new Amsoil OE line of engine oil.

For the LNF turbo, Amsoil 100% is the only Amsoil product that should be used.

Here is my $0.02 worth

There is alot of diffrent oils and opinions out there. Alot of good oils too.
Personally, I use Mobil 1 5W-30 because that is what the Owners Manual
calls for. I'm not a chemist, and I don't know tons about Oil and this and
that with Oil. I'm not saying the other options are bad. I'm just saying that
Since my owners manual calls for Mobil 1 5W-30, Mobile 1 5W-30 is what it
gets. Now mind you the owners manual DOES say that other oils can be used
provided they meet certine criteria. I can't remember all that right now, youd
have to look. If you don't have an owners manual, one is avalible online for
free from Chevy's website in Adobe .pdf format.
So basicly,

It says to use Mobile 1 5W-30 so that's what I use.
