Muffler differences?
Ok, I've searched and I've looked online and I can't find a clear description on the difference in certain types of mufflers. Right now, I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my car and it sounds like marbles in an aluminum trash can as soon as I hit the powerband. I had a straight thru style on it before and didn't have this problem.
Now, I know that there's like 3 types of mufflers out there. There's the piece of crap I have on my car, the chambered, then there's turbo style and straight thru. What I'm wondering is what's the difference in the turbo style compared to chambered and straight thru. I'm trying to find a new muffler to replace the raspy, crappy one I have on my car and there's a turbo style that I see that looks like it'll be perfect. Unfortunately I don't know the difference and I really don't wanna get yet another muffler that sounds like ass. I'm having quite the time trying to find a straight thru that's affordable and will fit my car, but this turbo style would be perfect. So basically, what is the difference between these 3 and which sounds best? Please don't start with the "why'd you put a flowmaster 40 on your car?" and the what not...i got dooped by the stupid exhaust shop.

That's close....but I'd need this one:
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=7996
Need it to be an offset inlet...but I'm not payin no $136 bucks for a muffler just because it has a name behind it, that's rediculous

Magnaflow is one of the best sounding mufflers for 4cyls. Flowmasters sound good on v8s lol but just like you said sound really bad on 4cyls. Magnaflows are kinda a middle priced muffler but well worth it IMHO
Mines a straight through 2 1/2 5x8 and i love it. No rasp and its decently loud

Really i dont know of a nice cheap muffler... Magnaflow is the cheapest decent muffler lol I like borla too but then your looking at like $170+. Why did you go 3''? Arnt you still on stock pulley?

That's a better price...but I'm not ever going to love you sir. Yes, I'm on stock pulley, but I have a factory 3" dp and it was 3" all the way to the end of the resonator and then it dropped down to 2.5. SO, i pulled out all the 2.5 and went with it lol And for some goofy ass reason, I'm boosting 12.5 psi now instead of the 10 I was stuck at before. Wicked mentioned clogged cat and I pooped myself. I'll be more than pissed of that's the case
also just in case you dont get the results you want on your new muffler, upgrade your stock resonator with a 30" magnaflow or cherrybomb glasspack/resonator. that should help with all the high pitch noises that comes out of our car at wot.
I have a Borla Pro XS muffler with 18" magnaflow resinator and 2.5" piping... Its not quiet, but its not too loud either. I deffinatley recomend this muffler, but not the actual catback that one is quiet
Actualy the stock pipinjg is only 2 1/8" at the front flange (double pipe inside) and crushes down to 2 1/4" at the rear axle, atleast on the S/C anyway.
