My 2.4ss is weak :(

my friend just pulled upto me on the street in his 01 SE-Rat a light and we just fooled around. it was for like maybe 100 meters to the next light.. well i thought i would molest him, but he had like a half car on me. i know its not that far or anything, but it was still kinda depressing.

what can i do to help give me a quick start. we both had autos.

next plan is the GMPP exhaust.

If you want speed, you chose the wrong base to start from. My opinion.

It is really easy to get power out of the SS, you just bought the wrong one. Sorry.

Save up for turbo and you will be able to molest much more than just sentra se-r's.

Aside from that, I'd get the GMPP Touring exhaust if I were you.

Get the GMPP performance exhaust -- the intake compliments the exhaust (not the other way around). The exhaust frees up the most HP for the buck. Then ask him to run again and let us know the results.

Hmmm odd as I have beaten the SE R several times. Get the GMPP intake and manifold thats what I have, mine is an automatic and I have no problams with them.

first of all.... the auto se-r and the auto SS are pretty good matches for one another.

the biggest issue with the 2.4 auto is the shifting, the westers tune for it will pick up a lot of speed for the dollar.

my advice: don't think about power, think about keeping that power to the road.

look at the westers, maybe firmer mounts to reduce engine movement. and check off the little stuff.. make sure the ac is turned off and it's not set to recirculate, check your air pressures, depending on your mileage, change the oil to mobil 1 and throw in some bosch +4 plugs.

eh so your car isn't a rocket car. It's ok, don't let the loss get you caught up into jumping into mods and don't set your goals to beat your friends or cars you see on the street. That's when half assed modding begins. Just set a horsepower or quartermile goal and work towards that by making sure you do all the proper supporting mods as well as adding horsepower.

Obviously your transmission is holding you back a bit. I don't mean to turn this into a stick vs auto thing but in stock form auto trannies suck. You could look into a high stall torque converter so you could get a more aggressive launch as well as looking to see if there are any shift kits on the market to help you get better shifts. If you can find a good transmission shop that has some racing experience they can probably do the modifications on your tranny. You don't always have to wait for some big name company to come out with the upgrades, typically a good shop can do them anyway.

That's just my suggestion. Start with your weakest link and go from there. Good luck!

i dont want a speed demon or anyhting, i just would like to at least hang with cars like that from the start. this is just my daily driver thats good on gas and stuff. but i mean since it is the 2.4 i expect a little power out of it. so ill pass on the turbo for now.

but i dunno if this makes a difference...my gas was really low. like almost on empty. i had regular grade in it too. oil level is at 18% tires could use a little air. can stuff like that make a huge difference? im pretty sure he probably didnt just have his oil changed and stuff.

The less gas the better when racing because it's less weight. I doubt the oil has much t to do with it but the tires can make a BIG difference in traction which ultimately equals better track times. There is a nice balance between inflation and traction. I don't know what tires you have so I couldn't tell you really but it's all trial and error to find the right amount.

Even with a turbo you still have a weak stock auto tranny and you would have to get a high stall torque converter to build boost off the line and have to do some work to get better shifts. Power adders are only as good as their supporting mods. Plus if this is your DD adding tons of horsepower probably isn't a good idea because there will be down time no matter how you plan it.

If you want to run with the SERs of this world you can do that by sticking with bolt ons and some other really minor things.

Auto is your down fall. Hopefully they come out with shift kits and stall converters.

what are u talking about?!?! the 2.4 is THE BEST. we only have 2 litres they have 2.4, add a s/c to a 2.4 and theres prolly 280whp? roughly. not to mention the turbo kit is almost out. this car could rape yours or mine when that kit comes out. lets just hope by that time i'll have a few mods myself. so IMO the 2.4 is a solid platform to start building.

I wasn't just limiting that statement to cobalts alone. Thats why I said "MY OPINION", cause I think that if you want power, you pretty much are limited with forced induction, or a big engine as a base. I don't understand turbo kits, because unless you do internal work, you can only run around 7 psi, and thats on engines that accept boost well. And at that, most cars that come stock turboed will still beat you, because they were already set up to accept boost, and to handle up to 15psi, if not more. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, like I said, its my own opinion, isn't that what threads like these are about? I'll await my flameage now.
