My dealership is ******** stupid!

I brought my car in to get a rattling noise fixed from my accessorie belt yesteday.

And the service guy phones me back today and says that I have an aftermarket "overdrive pulley" on my supercharger that is causing my car to over boost and that it will comprimise my warranty. He said that the supercharger had to have been taken off for me to put it on.

I was in shock.

Im like

"what are you talking about" I said. That is the GMPP Stage 2 upgrade kit that i bought THROUGH YOU GUYS. it comes with a smaller pulley, smaller belt, fuel injectors and PCM reflash. And it IS covered under warranty.

He said. Oh I dont think the foreman is aware of that. I will go let him know and phone you back.

**** these guys are retards.

ANyways, anyone have proof that the GM kit is warrantied.... I have a feeling I am gonna have to print out documentation proving it.

All you need is to point out that sticker. And hopefully you have the recipt for install proving that it was indeed installed by a dealership. Cause if a dealership is gonna install stuff it' spretty much common sence that it won't void the warrenty.

Hey guys, take it easy. I work at a Chevy dealership. All I can say that at our dealership the service advisors are over-worked. They can't know everything off by hearts and sometimes they need to check things with the supervisor/foreman/manager. They are only humans, and can make mistakes. Having to deal with agrivated customers all day long can be stressful.

But any case, if he was being nasty too you, then thats not right either. So it depends on the situation, but this is not called for:

"they gotta start hiring people with brains at these places"

Just my thoughts.

Go to Chevy's website and look under accessories for the Cobalt. That page states plain as day that the stage kits are backed by GM warranty.

Ok so I went in and talked to them.

The noises from my engine are from my stage 2 belt. The belt is wearing and basically its a bad belt.

They then told me that the stage two doesnt effect my drivetrain warranty, but the parts themselves are not warrantied. I said thats bullshit.

So I showed them the printed out page from the accessories of the cobalt and how they are warranties for 3 years / 60 000 kms.

So the shop foreman, head parts manage, and some other top guy had a meeting to talk about it. (I also showed them proof that i bought the stage two and had it installed at a GM dealer).

So they come back and tell me that there is a grey area in the warranty. That accessories are only warrantied for 3 years / 60k kms if those accessories are installed at the time you buy the car. If you get them installed after your car is delivered to you, they fall under the GM accessories warranty which is 12 months.

So I said, fine, it should still be warrantied then, i bought the stage kit in april.

So after 2 hours of argueing and meetings and phone calls to head gm parts guys and me showing them documentation, they decided they will order me a new belt, at no charge and replace it under warranty. But it will take a couple weeks to get the belt in.

So I am happy with that.

I just couldnt believe how the shop foreman just jumped the gun and decided to tell me i had installed aftermarket parts that arent GM parts and that he was voiding my warranty. That just made me so pissed i drove down right away with documentation lol

I am still waiting on a response to see if they will refinish my wheels under warranty.

There's a reason dealerships are often called "stealerships"...

Even if a service advisor doesn't know the answer, they should always be polite, courteous and understanding towards the customer. All too often, I've found that a dealership will be unwilling to help a customer. Since there is a mechanic and another dealership employee in this thread, please explain how much a dealership charges for non-warranty work and how much they get paid for warranty work. My bet is that warranty work pays less...

Anyways, I'm glad you're getting a new belt Jekyl.

(On a bit of a side note, the Saturn dealership that I go to absolutely rocks. I've found a great service advisor that genuinely cares about how well my car runs.)
