in need of battery

My battery is old and it likes to be dead. Haha. Anyway, what battery is everyone running? Should I be looking to get something more durable for the track? Is a stock replacement ok if I don't have a big stereo? Is it better to gget a super light battery for my car because I'll be at the track a lot this year?

stock battery is usually fine, there are no real "upgrade" batterys for our group size, so you would have to run a different size to get a different type of battery. I run a deka gold battery, havent had any issues.

What i do is i buy all parts from advance auto online and use a promo code from retailmenot.com. I often save myself around 40 bucks a purchase. Just have to look for the best code for what your buying. and you can still pick them up in store in like an hour.

90% of the batteries from parts stores are the same just re-branded.

My OEM battery from 08 died in early 2013 during a -40 degree stretch of weather.

Replace with an ACDelco. Not wise to run an AGM battery as the charging system is not set up for it.

How exactly does a charging system have to be setup in a car to run an AGM battery, besides the positive and negative battery cables being connected.

Cobalts use computer controlled charging systems designed for a flooded cell battery, which has different charging properties than an AGM. The charging system has to be setup different to properly charge an AGM, which you cannot do.

I want something lighter. Think smaller battery that might have a smaller reserve but still has the cranking amps

Nah, that's a standard flooded cell battery. There are no AGM batterys that I know of that fit group size 90, but I highly recommend them if you can find one. I run them in almost every other car I own as well as several friends car's. Usually get them from one of my friends who is a diesel mechanic. AGM is merely absorbent glass mat, almost all optima batterys are AGM. Just expensive thats all.

Cool thanks.

The other guy is right in that the cobalt has a computer controlled charging system. Whether or not that's affected by an agm battery I don't know.

unless your car is a race car, then i would just stick with the stock battery.

Go on a diet if you need the weight savings for daily use

as i said the AC Delco lasted you this long, just get that again and be done with it.

you know it works, so why go with something else ? its a battery it does what it needs to do.

I bought this battery when I owned my J-Body and as soon as I bought my LSJ I took out the OEM and put in the Optima. No problems at all for 3 years. I'm running about 1000w RMS of sound system and no problems. If you don't have an aftermarket sound system just do the OEM battery

Yep, my factory battery is still kicken 7.5 years later.

I will be replacing it with another AC Delco when it decides to die.

Didnt u know.... all the kiddies think anything factory/oem is crap, and they must find an aftermarket alternative for better performance, lol.
