Need help in purchasing this cobalt ss
Hey everyone, new to the forum and Im in need of a good daily driver. I drive 60 miles a day round trip for work so I would like a car thats good on gas and that can make it through michigans winter. Last year was record breaking with snow.
Im thinking about going to check this 2007 cobalt ss 4 door in the next few hours. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated as im not too capable of inspecting a car myself. What is a fair price to pay on this car?
The guy said recalls have been done.
Are there any other common issues to watch out for? Thanks in advance

LOL. Thanks and I was worried a little about low profile tires.
I do like that he's the original owner and seems like he's taken care of it.
I don't like that there is not a transmission dipstick from my understanding.

I've had two balts in Michigan during the winter. Never really had traction issues with my LE5 but holy **** with my LSJ. Get the snow tires, seriously.
Edit: OP, I see that you are looking at getting an LE5 sedan. MY LE5 was a 2007 coupe. I had no significant issues with mine other than the power steering recall (previous owner had it recalled, not me). The SS/NA is okay as a tooling around town car, but it lacks power. Don't get me wrong, it's got more power than the base/LS/LT models but I wouldn't go back to a SS/NA after driving an SS/SC. SC handles better than the NA and has more power. Both cars are comparable on gas--I was getting between 30-32 mpg in my NA. I get about the same mileage in my SC.

Seller couldn't show the car today so it's going to be tomorrow
Ok thanks for replys everyone. Would I be dumb to buy the car without checking the trans fluid? I read about the way to check it and i wont be having that done. So theres no common trans problems or anything else to know about? I see these have a timing chain so no timing belt to worry about. Is there any other expensive maintenance cost to worry about soon?

What if left untouched? Will it cause any issues? Also what kind of cost its that going to be? I dont work on cars, not even changing the oil. Lol
"A new transmission oil pan magnet, P/N 29535617, was released for service.
The current square transmission oil pan magnet may become saturated with
normal ferrous sediment and the Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS) is now
collecting ferrous sediment, making it vary from design. For a given current the
PCS electromagnet is stronger, causing the line pressure to be less than
needed."
Now the TSB as far as I know was issued under the 04 cavalier, not sure if it was for the cobalt or not, but it applies to all, 4t40e, 4t45e, 4t65e, and 4L60, transmissions. The picture is from when I did my trans fluid flush and filter change, and like the TSB states, it only had a small square magnet which fortunately was only partially loaded with material.
I know! I argued with him about the blue book on the initial call and he thought i was just making it up or something. Lol. Honestly I haven't even looked at it yet but still super interested and offered him $5500 over the phone. Not sure if you guys thats a fair offer or not and I know I haven't even seen the car in person but dont want to waste my time or his thats why i offered over the phone. Im not one of those craigslist people that call and make s stupid offer and if accepted dont even show up. Lol. If it is super clean in person i might go $6,000 but a lot more comfortable at $5500. He didn't get offended by that offer but he said hes got to get more than that. He said he wants to give it more time to see if he can get more but then hes like come check it out and see what you think. I know hes willing to negotiate
If it was fully loaded like most SS's usually come, with leather interior and heated seats id say it was worth more around 6-6500, but without all that, 5500 is actually being pretty generous IMO. There are SS/SC's on CL right now in my area between 3-5k, cobalt has lost most of its value thanks to it being GM's poster child for killing people during the ignition recall. The guy I bought mine off of runs a used car dealership and he said he can't move them at all. I paid $4k for my 06 SS/NA coupe last year with it fully optioned out.
