new to methanol. please help

new to methanol. please help

im buying a methanol kit for my 07 ss/sc. its ottp stage II, CAI, High flow cat, and a couple other things that dont pertain to performance.

ok my first question is, will i just have to run water injection untill i get my tune for meth.

second question. i do not have access to somewhere that sells meth, and i really dont wanna have to buy it online every couple months. whats the best alternative? HEET, wiper fliud etc? and what do i mix it with/how much.

last question. im tapping my CIA for the nozzle, and i wanna know, will it hurt my supercharger?

please help me if you have some kind of experience or actually know something. THANKS!

1. This should be in the LSJ performance forum or the advanced performance modification forum.

2. You can run meth/water or straight water safely, but you will lose hp unless you tune for it.

3. You could buy the yellow bottles of heet (99% methyl alcohol) and mix that with distilled water, but M1 methanol is sold at many hardware stores. Whatever you do, do not use washer fluid. That **** has all kind of additives that will gunk up the nozzle and stain things blue.

4. In the short term, not really. Over time, it will corrode the metal and eat teh teflon coating on the s/c rotors. but you're looking at years before this happens.

cool thanks a lot for the help man. so even straight water will cause me to loose hp? how much loss am i looking at till i get my car tuned?

do not run straight water run at least 50/50

so should i wait till i bring my car to get dyno tuned to hook it up? or hook it all up now and risk loss of power?

just install it and don't put power to it till you get tuned, why run meth with no tune?

well im impatient for one. lol. and i dont get a lot of time off work so id have to put it on when i get a lil spare time then go get it tuned on a day off cuz the place thats gonna do it is 150 miles away lol

What size nozzle came w/ your kit?

Your 3" pulley setup can run 23-24* of spark up to 12.0 afr without detonation on 91 octane only.

If you insist on running water/meth injection on a 3" pulley, a 1gph nozzle will be more than sufficient on a straight distilled water, 50/50, 75/25 or 100% meth mixture.

The more water you add via it being nozzle size or mixture, the more power you'll lose. At the same time it's protecting you from detonation and significantly cooling your IAT2.

Methanol does a good job @ at cooling too, but evaporates to quickly in the process. Methanol's job would be to provide the octane mainly. The more methanol you add, the more power theoretically you should make.

Though running a small percentage of water such as 10-25% is always a good safety margin for daily driven cars.

im not sure what size nozzle... its used. but i have a 2.8" Smoothflow MPS 60lb Flowmatched Injectors if that makes any difference. so if i ran a mixture with more meth than water right now, not yet tuned, would it raise my octane hence more power, or would i loose power. still confused about the stuff at the moment. lol

just realized the ottp stg2 option comes w/ a 2.8

3gph nozzle, no bigger

run 75/25 mix or 90/10 mix, find yourself a local hp tuner.

yeh thats the only thing finding someone with a good meth tune. i'm advanced for 100 octane once i boost i think its been over a year. i've ran out of meth it wont really hurt much, of course it's not a good thing but it's not like i'll blow my motor if i run out and take it easy til i get moar. i love my meth kit it's awesome. you should love your meth kit too. can we all just have a moment to love our meth kits?

I recomend running 50/50 mix. its will help solve your hight iat issues. Before you get a tune i would run a 3 nozzzle and after you should be able to run a 5gph nozzle.

You should be able to get methanol very close to you. Just open up the phone book and call around to chemical supply stores. should have no issues finding someone that will sell you meth for 2.00 gallon.

hey thanks a lot man! do yall have premix for a reasonable price? i wouldnt know how to mix my own.

We do sell premix if you don't feel like making your own. Its super easy. Look in the phone book for chemical suppliers and call and ask if they sell methnaol and if they will sell small quanitys like 5 gallons. If they say no ask them if the know someone will that will.

then just mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with distilled water.

and just a fwi 1 gallon of methanol and 1 gallon of water = less than 2 gallons when mix. 97% to exact..
