New owner, rev limiter?

Hello all, I am new to the forum and own a 2006 blue cobalt ss supercharged. LOVE THIS car. This thing rocks!!! I have always been an owner of v8 muscle ( and still own a 90 vette ) and I bought this as much for style and gas mileage because my commune is an hour as much as the performance aspect. I am flat out SHOCKED at how fast this car is stock. I never leave anything alone and plan on modifying this to the moon. That said I was ripping the gears and hit about 6400-6500 rpms and the car bucked briefly at that rpm which is also the redline on the tach. Is this the factory rev limiter kicking in? Or do I have a problem? I figured the rev limiter would kick in a little later than that, like say 7k but maybe not? Does the stage II kit increase the rev range beyond this?

Anyway, glad to be here, and will have a 12 second car within the next year or so ( that is my plan anyway. ( good thing I never raced one of these with my vette as it would have been close and I probably would have lost )

Looking forward to spending some serious time with you all here.

The rev limiter will kick in at redline, your car is fine.

Stage II will bump redline to 7,000 rpm.

HP tuners will allow you to go higher then that but above 7,200 rpm you will start to see valve float. So 7200 rpm is a nice conservative number.

I hit my stage 2 rev limiter all the time. Sometimes, when the engine feels abused, it will go in limp mode (engine power reduced). Never had any problems. Everyone that lives around here would vouch that I would be the first with problems but knock on wood! This car is badass.

Thanks everyone for posting, now its time to add power !!!!!!!!! Stage 2, CAI, exhaust system, but first the Ingalls damper everyone is talking about. That is a nice piece and the wheel hop in this car is horrible, borderline violent. I figure 13s before the track closes in October. Time to start spanking some STIs and EVOs at my local track show em what Cobalts are all about. I feel like a kid again.
