Newb Questions

Hello all,

I would really like to get a Cobalt SS, the problem is, I need a automatic. I was thinking about buying a N/A SS and then have a turbo kit installed or buy a turbo SS and have a automatic installed. Any opinions on what would be a better option?

If I "had" to get an auto I would not buy a Cobalt.

A MKV GTI or Jetta with the FSI/TSI motor and DSG dual clutch transmission. Best of both worlds and I bet you could pick one up for similar pricing as a well sorted SS.

my first car was my standard cobalt. daily driven for 6 years. i fall asleep driving automatics. not literally, but i have a hell of a time paying attention lol

standards to me are better in traffic than autos. i hate when you need to accelerate in an auto and it wont downshift to maximize power. thats not a problem in a standard

my 06 ss sc is my daily driver, im 17 and have no problem driving it in traffic. I hate automatics, they suck to drive. Also, the car really isnt that fast as it is, and having it auto would just make it worse. I don't really see the point in having an automatic SS tbh, just learn how to drive manual properly and you'll never turn back.

Agreed, its not like you're driving a truck that's standard. The clutch isn't that stiff and has all of what 6inches of travel?

Just learn how to drive a stick, it's easier than you think.

Yea, I might have to just do that. The only issue is, I'm not sure where I would learn to drive one at. I guess I could buy one and then learn. I'm just looking for something that is more fun to drive than my sonic for everyday use.

Traffic in Flint? Kidding.

Traffic is really no excuse. In terms of cobalts, the auto is really a slushbox.

The way autos are going tho, my next car may be 8AT/dct

Ask a friend. It should only take 2-3 hours to get it down.

Buy it and then practice in an empty parking lot before you hit the road.

I learned how to drive a standard in a school parking lot after hours, like 5-6 o clock at night. perfect stop and go pretending their were stop signs at the end of each parking row. could always use cones as cars too. it helps. just remember, once you get first, the rest is a breeze. oh, and don't listen to the radio. learn to listen to the motor. not sure if the cobalts have the dummy lights, but don't go off that, every car is different. get in the habit of listening to the motor like I said. I am sure others with more driving experience than me will agree.

Maybe at first listen but I have no issues with the music turned up, it's not hard to look at the tach if you really want to.
