What's going on everyone,
I've been looking at this site for awhile and never had anything to post about,
That was until now, I picked up an 06 SS 2.4 on Thursday night.
It has everything in it but onstar. Red, with ebony interior.
I just wanted to know if anyone has any tips for breaking her in?

run the **** out of it... it's a chevy... it can take the abuse...
on a more serious note...
if you want to play it safe, get about 500-1000 on her then she should be good to go...
btw...

welcome---soon us 2.4L SS owners will own this board!!
Do it at 3000---you are perfectly safe. If there was any worry GM would call for an early oil change. There isn't and they don't.
My father taught me that with a new car, not only do you have to break her in, you have to slowly bring her up to the point where your breakin-in driving is the same as your normal driving. That way when you're done breaking her in, there's no change in your driving habits. That being said, I kept her under 3500RPMs for the first 1000 miles, just to be safe. After 1000mi, I didn't go over 4000RPMs for the next 500 miles, and after I broke 2000mi on her, I was putting her up over 5000RPMs. I didn't actually redline the car until after the 3000 mile mark. My first oil change was at about 2975mi, and I broke the car in on its initial oil only. But you don't necessarily need to be as safe as I was, I just feared the Lemon Law. :P
Umh, the manual says everything about engine break-in (2-17 I think). No hard launches, do not exceed 5,000RPM, avoid maintaining the same speed for long periods, and do not engine break to slow the vehicle. All this should be done for the first 500 miles (805 kms).
Now, I agree with all of this except the last one. Engine breaking does not hurt a vehicle during break-in. In fact, it helps set the piston rings. Besides, how do you avoid engine breaking in a manual transmission car???? You going to go around corners out of gear?? How stupid!
Modern engines today are produced to near perfect tolerances. In reality, there is no break-in really needed for vehicles. In the old days, engines required this period of time for the various mechanical parts to work themselves in. Now, with our advanced materials, design, and construction, engines do not really require the same care during break in as those of 15 years ago or more.
As far as oil changes, there is not really any need to change oil until the oil life monitioring system says so. However, many people do a precautionary change at about 1500 miles (2500 kms) to remove any metal fillings from the engine break-in. Personally, I would recomend doing this, just as a precautionary measure.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!
Until that first oil change go easy, after another 1500 change oil again, then you set for the every 3000 rule. Which if you use synthetic can be more so just read your bottle. Try to use the same to...consistency.
