My norm collant temp is 195 during normal driving. Ive been i traffic b4 in the dead of summer with the A/C on and Ive seen 205. If your beating on your car you could get to 220 pretty easily. I think the fans turn on at 220 or so. I don't think you coolant starts to boil until 240+. Correct?

Is this cluster from your Cobalt?

most new cars the t-stat wont open until the 220's.

so if your idling a while with no a/c on you may see that.

or if you have been driving hard you may also see that. i would get worried if it was in the 230's or higher.

Engine coolant can get that high if you're beating on it. The only way I know of reducing these temps is diluting the dexcool with water and/or adding supercoolant like water wetter or purple ice. You should flush the radiator/coolant system every 15k miles or so. And if you live in a place that doesn't get cold (near freezing temperature) you can run maybe 25-30% dexcool with water and you should get lower temps.
