Smile Noob From PA

Hello everybody, my name is Mike and I'm from Greensburg, PA- about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

I just got my 2006 Cobalt LT Coupe yesterday, and so far I love it! I traded an '03 S10 ZR2... liked the truck, hated the gas mileage (or lack thereof). I've liked the Cobalts since they first came out and so far I'm glad I got one. Looking around the site, it seems like there is a lot of good info here, and I'm looking forward to learning about these cars and meeting fellow owners! Thanks for having me!

If you were talking to me about Blairsville, GA, i live about 45 miles south of Atlanta, so not that close but not extremely far... 2 1/2 - 3 hours maybe...

Hey Mike, welcome to the group! I picked my SS up in June. There's a lot of them in this neck of the woods.

jt: I'll take a wild guess - you're going to Wyotech aren't you? (OK, maybe it's not so wild since that's basically the ONLY thing in Blairsville.) I go to grad school in Indiana.

Thanks for all the welcome's! Seems like a great site.

jt: I'm about 25-30 minutes from Blairsville. I hear Wyotech is a good school, if that's where you're going. Not much to do in Blairsville though... you'll probably want to go to Indiana (close) or Pittsburgh if you don't want to be too bored...

alleycat: you're right, there does seem to be a lot of SS's (and Cobalts in general) around here. I assume you're going to IUP?

Anyway, thanks again. I'm looking forward to hanging around the site and learning a few (maybe quite a few) things!

I don't see many SS's, at least not around pittsburgh. I've seen a red one in Mt. Lebanon, a blue one around Edgewood, and possibly another blue one in the same area, and mine. Those are the only ones I've seen since they've been out. I see mostly base model coupes/sedans and quite a few LS coupes with the sport package.

Yep, I'm at IUP. I just started this semester. It's a crappy drive (110 miles r/t), and I am DREADING it this winter...

Haha, come to griffin, ga... i've seen one lt sedan, two base coupes, two lt coupes with sport package, and 0 SS or SS S/C. I'll be the first in the area with a 2.4L SS, and still no 2.0's here yet. There were 3 at our dealership though.

I've been seeing quite a few right in my area. Most seem to be red (unless I keep seeing the same one ), but I've also noticed a couple yellow ones and at least one blue. We seem to have a lot of "tuners" around here so maybe that has something to do with it?

That is a long commute. I don't know exactly where you're driving from, but they seem to keep 119 pretty clear so that part shouldn't be too bad. Even so I know what you mean... winter makes your drive seem about 10x longer...

At least in GA we don't have to worry about harsh winters. It gets cold, or what yall might call "cool", but hardly ever and ice or snow. got about 1" of ice in a storm last year... kept things sloed down a day or two, that was it.

Hehehe, you might be seeing the same one, I thought there were 3 other blue ones in my area, I kept seeing them in different places but then I started looking a little more closely and it was always the same person driving, LOL.

I'm driving from the east side of Pittsburgh, "woodland hills" area (there's like 6 or 7 boroughs right together). It's 53 miles. I don't take 119 unless it snows because it's all torn up north of 22, which is where I get on it from right at Blairsville. We'll see how they do keeping 22 clean, that's my main concern, since I'm only on 119 for about 15 miles of the trip.

Probably is the same red SS, I'll have to try to get a look at the driver next time...

22 *should* be OK for you this winter. (Just don't kill me if I'm wrong! ) It's a fairly heavily-traveled main highway and I'd think they would make it a priority. I guess we'll all find out how the Cobalts perform in the winter. Believe it or not this will be my first winter without 4x4. I hate snow...
