Is it normal to stall Neutral to Drive?
Is it normal to stall Neutral to Drive?
My 2.2L LS auto stalled the other day from sitting completely still in neutral changing it to drive. Here's how it happened.... I was in park, getting ready to drive away. I put it into Drive, or so I thought... and ended up in Neutral instead. I didn't gas it yet, I was just waiting for my car to start idling forward first, and it never did. I looked down saw I was still in Neutral, so I changed from Neutral to drive and it stalled.
Is this normal? I did change kind of slow because I hesitated for a split second between Neutral to Drive... I brain farted because I couldn't remember if you have to use the button to change from Neutral to Drive or not. (Since I always do it that way because I never use Neutral, I always go from Park through Reverse into Drive which requires the button to be held)
Anyway, is this normal? This isn't the only time I've stalled my 2.2 Auto, but this was the weirdest one.

This is the first time it's happened in this fashion. It's stalled 3 times total since I bought it March 7th.
I can't remember precisely how the other ones happened... I think one was taking a turn slow and wide, engine just stalled. Another was a few seconds after I started it. It just gave out, like it didn't properly start or something. It lit up like normal, started like normal, then two seconds later just puttered out and stalled dead. I was like "Oh my god, my new car is breaking" but then it started right back up like normal and never did it again.
So it was 3 different times, in 3 different fashions, and never more than once each particular way.

I might make the dealer check it out, do they charge for that? If I tell them there's a problem with it and they think there isn't?

I would take it back to the dealership, and I would either take the mechanic for a test drive, or ride with him. Either way, make sure you go with them. That way there's no funny stuff.
If possible, have them keep the car until they figure out what the problem is and fix it!
Say what? I put the car in neutral all the time when coming to a stop, no real point im just lazy and dont wanna hold the brake but anyways my car logs how I drive??
No. You should still be under warranty. A new car shouldn't be doing what your car is doing.

QFT, a car stalling is never normal, much less a new one.
I can't let them keep it until they figure out what the problem is. It's the only vehicle I have for my job, which requires the use of my car.
At the most they could keep it for 2 days if I bring it to them on a Sunday, as I get Sunday and Monday off in a row.
Should I wait until it happens again so that I'm certain there's a problem or do you think I should get it checked out immediately?
