I asked the dealerships and they said the last day to order a 09 SS was either next week or the last week of April.

wait sunroof=moonroof?

so what do you call a sunroof that doesn't open up? I've always though THAT was a moonroof..

A sunroof is traditionally just a metal panel that opens up. I haven't found any glass panels that don't open up, but there are glass roofs or "Vista" roofs in Ford's marketing books. The Ford Edge and the 2009-up Ford Mustang feature an available glass roof, which replaces all of the metal with glass, so it's not a panel.

I'd say the modern "sunroof/moonroof" is a hybrid of the old definitions. It's a tinted glass panel that allows in sun and moon light, but also opens up for ventilation during warm weather.

I'm 6'3", the SS/TC coupe with moonroof is fine for me. I actually adjust the seat higher so it's more comfortable. If you want to talk lack of headroom, my 07 Mustang GT barely has enough room for me. I have to sort of duck my head under the window sill to talk to people. The Cobalt feels cavernous.

Same here, only I'm 6'1". I usually pass on cars with sunroofs because the roofs are too low, but the salesman assured me I wouldn't have a problem since he didn't -- and when I met him I understood why he was so confident. I'm guessing he was probably 6'5".

Long story short, I have no problems fitting in my car despite the sunroof. It being a sedan may help in that regard, though.

I believe that some kind of side airbag is federally mandated for the 2010 MY, so they probably can't offer a delete option any longer.

What that means is that aftermarket support for ALL cobalt sedans will be going out the window

This isn't really true...mechanically anything that works on a coupe will work on a sedan.

The phase-in period starts in MY'10 but doesn't affect all cars until MY'13. A certain percentage of the manufacturer's fleet has to have them each year up until that time, but I'd bet it was still to streamline manufacturer and for cost reasons in case of the Cobalt since nearly all of them already had side curtain airbags.

Another even bigger change affecting safety in the number of crashes that it can prevent, electronic stability control has been mandated to become standard by MY'12. That means all passenger cars after that date will have standard ABS/ESC. The NHTSA estimates that it will reduce the number of single vehicle crashes by 34% and single SUV crashes by 59% and save 5-10k lives a year.

I thought DSC was mandated by 2010? If you notice almost ALL cars have DSC by MY2010, even the rinky dink cars.

I linked to the law in my last post. Some manufacturers have implemented it sooner than mandated, but it will be required on most vehicles by MY'12 with the phase in set as follows:

In order to increase fleet installation of lifesaving
ESC systems, the phasein
schedule for ESC is being accelerated to require 55 percent phasein
in the first
year, 75 percent in the second year, and 95 percent in the third year, rather than
the 30 percent, 60 percent, and 90 percent schedule that was proposed (see S8.1,
S8.2, and S8.3 in the regulatory text of this final rule).

this is SS models, right?

and there were automatic ones? i'm confused

or does that apply to all cobalts meaning no more automatic models? if so, that is stupid, A LOT of people buy Cobalts to be gas savers and a lot of people won't buy manual cars, so why would they get rid of the automatic?

The guide is for all Cobalt models to include the SS as well as the lower trim levels.

GM is retarded........

you take your economy car and don't offer it in an automatic.... Now don't get me wrong, if I were buying a Cobalt for gas mileage, i'd want the manual.... But this is going to kill this car...

civic, cobalt, focus the automatic sales bury the manual sales, and these morons wonder why they are losing money?

I don't believe they're getting rid of the automatic. There used to be some models where the automatic was standard, now it is an option, so the pricing structure changed, that's all.
