Oils

So I've been using mobil for my cobalt and was aondering if there's anything better. My friends were telling me about royal purple but I hadn't heard anything about it before. So what's the best kind of oil out there?

well a lot of people on here will say royal purple is the best, they even claim that it increases power, which i am not going to argue with because it can, but at what cost? the reason you can get increased horse power out of royal purple(1 or 2 crank horse power) is because it is thinner than mobil one, meaning it wont last as long and not protect your engine as well. TRUST ME, use the mobil one, your engine was designed by gm to run on mobil one....hents your oil cap, also mobil one is the best synthetic oil out there, it protects the longest against thermal break down and holds it's viscosity much longer than other oils. stick with the mobil one, especially if you drive your car hard

Go over to bobtheoilguy forums and read about mobil 1 becoming a 20w oil when heated up. M1 is pure GARBAGE

Redline, Amsoil, German Castrol, Royal Purple > M1

honestly, any good quality synth oil that meets GM standards will be okay.

i like mobile one, because it seems just as oily when it comes out as when it went in.

i dont care what ******* bob the oil guy thinks, where the **** is this bob mother ****** when you spin a bearing at 80,000 miles from using synthetic oils that don't meet gm standards. i work for gm so i can personally tell you that mobil one is the ONLY synthetic oil that can stand up to their rigorous testing process.

x2 mobil one stands up to the challenge, if you own a race car that doesnt see many miles, maybe a few passes on the strip and then you change the oil again, use royal purple or amsoil. but for everyday use, gm recommends mobil 1

So you'd use a GM approved oil even if it has been analyzed and proven to be garbage by a laboratory? You're an idiot.

you guys just don't know what your talking about, all you people ever do is find something to argue about, it's so ******* stupid, i'm stating the facts, and your stating your opinion. read up on it before you spit out non-sense, read some actual lab tests, you'll see which oil is the best. i think your the uninformed idiot here, not me. you can believe ever you want though, i'm just not going to argue with you about it, i told you the facts and thats that. i think i know more about my profession than you do, if you tell me something about financing or banks i will listen to you, because in that case i can admit that you are more knowledgeable than me, but this is my turf and i'm right, sorry

there race cars not daily drivers they drive for 500 miles and rebuild the engine.
drag cars gets there engine rebuild hella lot more. take your oil to get tested and
see for yourself what oil suits you.

different oil for different applications. do you see semi trucks using car oils no they use
the heavy duty oil, so if a race car use one type of oil does that mean you use it also?
there not daily drivers.

get your oil tested.

Didn't you just start at the dealer, like, two months ago?

What about Castrol Syntec, Pennzoil Platinum, etc, which ALSO are listed on the label as meeting the same GM spec that the manual requires? Same spec as Mobil 1.

I'm not saying it can't squeeze 3hp or so. oil is oil. is there a difference from fully synthetic and regular oil. YES! from brand to brand though if you do your research and read where NAPA oil is from or mobile 1 or most your oil's on the back where it says it is from or where the oil came from it is all the same spot.

ANY type of fully synthetic 5w-30 will work just fine. if you want power go get a drop in filter and mod your stock air box or go buy a performance part. don't go spend more money on oil thinking it is giving you 10hp to the wheels, because it isn't.

Oh, also for the really high end race car's did you know royal purple gives them the oil for free when they race just so fools like yourself see that a race car is running royal purple that it is the best. that's how royal purple is making it. they advertise so well. do your research on how it became royal purple and the people who started it who had so much money to advertise it properly.
Another cluless one. Go over to

Uninformed ones? Why don't you look in the mirror and check both your grammer as well as your spelling, before attempting to tell others about how 'uninformed' you think they are.

And so I guess that the guys on Top Gear don't know **** either right? Because all of their testing shows that RP > M1 as well.

Also, RP not only sufficiently meets GM oil standards (why don't YOU look it up): it surpasses it. RP and AMSOIL are higher level (that means better, ********) synthetic compounds. Go do some research.

German Castrol is without a doubt THE BEST oil to put in the car, but it can be a real bitch to find.

i know of a friend who took both oil's and a bunch of my friends gathered money and tested it out and his car didn't get any boost in power with royal purple vs. 2 other brand's of fully synthetic oil.

PROVE ME WRONG! ah actually you don't have to because i know your going to have some comment to right back that in your little head you believe is right or you believe everything you read so you know what? keep buying royal purple or brands that say it gives you more power! in the end inside your little head you will think your car is going faster and i guess that's all that really matters.

it really doesn't make a difference however. fully synthetic is fully synthetic. go grab a couple different companies tell me where it came from or go back track and trace all the steps and realize it's all the same with just a different brand labeled outside of the box. i know that's a harsh reality check for someone who pays more money and then wants to argue and say there right because they have been spending more money. just go do me a favor and go back track a couple companies and tell me where the oil came from you will find out all from the same spot and all the same.
it's not even worth it to argue with these morons, the commercials and advertisements tell them that rp and amsoil are the best, why would those companies have a reason to lie? you and i both know what to use, so i could care less if these retards want to waste their money. i know our engines are going to last a lot longer, even if we don't have the increased horsepower!

If you are pushing your car sooo much that you have to worry about getting something better than Mobil 1, then get something else. Otherwise stick with it.

I could care less what bob the oil guy says either. I knew Onyx was going to get in this thread as soon as I saw the title.

So... ignore my comment about Top Gear and **** it, the entire Speed Channel too while your at it.

You too are so hard up M1's assess... then tell us, oh wise ones, since we have to PROVE that RP is so much better (and when we do... you just tell us the sources are 'unreliable') why M1 is so much better then? Where is YOUR proof?

And btw... saying 'fully synthetic is fully synthetic' is possibly the dumbest ******* thing i've heard on these forums. Why not go ahead and say 'gasoline is gasoline' too while your at it.

and couldnt you say the same thing about M1? whos not to say you didnt see a M1 comerical and now your all "hot" for it, or whos not to say M1 paid GM to have it "recommended" and "advertised" on their performance vehicles?

do you think GM really gives a rats **** what kind of oil company's oil you put in your car? have you ever thought that perhaps M1 paid GM to have their name up there so "kids like you" would get all hot for M1?
