Ordered Cobalt...Now the wait....

I have my Laser Blue Cobalt SS/SC ordered. I'm gonna call them up sometime this week to get my order number so I can have someone look up when it's gonna be built, but until then I was wondering what exactly I was looking at. About how long will it take for my car to finally come in. Both dealerships told me a month ago it would take about 5 weeks from the time I order it. So hopefully I'll have it at the end of October. Is this realistic? Or would I be better off finding one on the lot with all the options I want without the ones I don't want?

I recently ordered one as well. Dealer told me that it can be anywhere between 6-8 weeks from time of order to actual pickup (take home) date.

Do the dealers in your area just not have any in stock or are you guys just really picky about the options that are on the car?

Anyways though, congrats guys. When the cars finally get here you will love them.

Well, my dealer just called with the order number (I was expecting to have to call since I told him about a month ago I wanted it. I don't really see the point in having the order number unless you can really use it). He said unless there was any part shortage, 2-4 weeks. 4 weeks is what I've been getting from dealerships so far.

If you dont mind me asking, fo those (main poster) who have custom ordered your vehicle where you able to haggle the base price at all? Do you have to put money down or work out payments etc prior to the custom order?

I think I'm paying something like 20000-21000 something for the SS/SC with everything but OnStar, but thats with the GM discount. I really didn't try to haggle the price or anything, so I don't know. And as far as downpayment, the first dealership wanted $500 down, and the one I went to last time said nothing down at all. No money until I have the car in the lot he said.

Are you sure about that? The GM discount only applies to select 2005 vehicles? It should not be available on 2006 cobalt SS's, thats what Porter told me....

Also all options puts the car in the 24,000 dollar range, I dont even think the GM discount cuts 4000 dollars off. I work for Comcast and am eligable for the True supplier discount.

on a 23,800 car (the car I want with G85 package and side impact airbags) its 1300 bucks off so that would be 22,500.

GM employee discount takes a fully loaded '06 Cobalt SS S/C to around $20,500 +/- 2%.

are you sure this is right? My understanding is it was not available on the 2006 Cobalt SS... The 2005's sitting on the lot are eligable for this, but I was told by chevy corporate and also the dealerships that this was not hte case. heres my email from chevy....

Subject: RE: Chevrolet Cobalt Product Information

Dear Mr. Monaco,

Thank you for contacting Chevrolet and for your interest in the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS! It is true that the GM Employee Discount that runs from July 6, 2005 through September 6, 2005 does not included remaining 2004 or any 2006 model year vehicles. Please be assured that we value your correspondence. However, we do not have information on the GM Supplier Discount. To assist you with your request, please contact the GM Supplier Program Headquarters at 1-800-960-3375. You may also visit their website at www.gmsupplierdiscount.com.

While you can place an order with your preferred Chevrolet dealership, you are only able to make selections from the available options from the factory. We suggest you contact your preferred dealerships to see what options are available. If you do not yet have a preferred dealer, to locate a dealership in your area, please visit www.gm.com.

Now is a great time to purchase a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS! GM has announced a regional incentive that is running August 11, 2005 through September 6, 2005, which allows 6.75% for up to 60 months financing for qualified buyers. Please keep in mind that incentive eligibility is based on a number of factors including program dates, credit approval and geographical residency. Please check with your preferred dealer for further details. While you are at the dealership, we recommend you take a test drive. There is nothing like a test drive to help make that ultimate purchase decision!

General Motors has announced our Total Value Promise for the 2006 model year. For 2006, we have lowered prices, added features or redesigned over 50 General Motors vehicles. So you get more without paying more on the cars and trucks you really want. It is not a promotion. It is a promise. If you would like more information on this promise, please visit our website at www.gm.com/valuepromise.do?brandId=gm&cmp=gm_of.

We hope that this information is helpful to you. If you need additional information or have further questions, you may write back or contact Chevrolet at 1-800-950-2438, between 8:00am - 11:00pm Eastern Time, seven days per week. Thank you for contacting Chevrolet!

Sincerely,

Amy Yamasaki

If it has changed and they are including all 2006 vehicles now how does that work with custom ordering? If I went up there today and talked #'s with them and did a custom order would they still applay the GM discount even though I wont ge the car for 6-8 weeks?

Ah I c. I just spoke to a Greg at newcar. Surprisingly they have a 2006 black instock fully loaded which is exactly what I wanted. I didnt need the sunroof, but since they have it in stock I figured Id go up there and talk #'s with them. I work for Comcast and am Eligable for the True Supplier Discount. The sticker price is

24,935 fully loaded.

True supplier discount brings it down to 23,545

He said no rebates and the lowest GMAC interest rates are 6.75 for 60 months.

I told him I would stop in and talk #'s today....

How much can you haggle the price of a car in stock?

Can I bring that 23,500 down to 22,500? What is the normal haggle price play in that price?

in my own experiences, you can haggle anything. but the dealer is going to want the 23-5 or what not for the car. haggle UP not down.. get them to throw in extended waranty, X amount of free oil changes, free rental when work needs done, as much FREE stuff you can think of. IOne time, I told the saleswoman the only way I would take the deal is if they through in a whole box of those fancy looking disposable pens.

The car that they have on the lot has Onstar and a Sunroof, which are 2 features I really didnt want. that adds a little of a Grand to the price of the car. I guess IM a #'s guy and I wanted payments under or arround 300 dollars a month. If the car did not have Onstar and the sunroof, and with the TS discount, the money IM putting down, the money on my GM Card etc it would have been right where I needed it. With the sun roof and onstar its going to be more then that. IM in no hurry to buy a new car since I currently drive a 2004 Nissan SE-R, but I did want to buy a car with a stick. IM half way tempted to buy the saturn Ion Redline, I just thought the cobalt was nicer looking and had a better interior.

Ill talk price with him today and Ill see where it takes me. If he cant meet me where I feel comfortable then I will walk.

Thanks for the information though I appriciate it. I definately wont go away without free oilchanges for life, since apparently it costs 100 dollars or more to change it.

Yea, thats right, but I have a couple family members who work for GM, one on the Cobalt. So your right, but I always get that discount.

On my 04 Cavy LS Sport, I was able to get it down to about 12500. It started at 19500 with my options. GM Discount and end of year savings really helped there.
