what size rims would be required for the ss? after looking at them closely i noticed those rotors are pretty damn big... would it take 17" rims for snow tires, or would some 16"s fit around the brakes?

I need to ponder that as well, seeing as I live in Wyoming...

Anyone with the SS S/C care to go measure the clearance between the brakes and the factory 18" wheels.. and also measure the diameter of the brakes etc. as well would be a good idea.. ( kinda hard to 'guess' from pictures )

 

For the SS

Front brakes
Rotor size (dia. x thick in mm) 296x26 or 11.7"x 1.02"

Rear brakes
Rear drum size (dia. x width in mm) 270x14 or 10.6"x 0.55"
Directly from the chevy website.

And about 1.75" from the top of the caliper to the inside of the 18s.
Directly from my garage.

 

yikes only 1.75" clearance form the caliper to the wheel....damn i hope i don't have to go with 18"s and snowtires, that's gonna be expensive

 

You will beable to fit 17s or 16s, i think. The whole thing depends on the inside of the rim. If you get a 16 inch rim your going to loose an inch in the diameter of the inside of the rim going from an 18inch rim to a 16inch rim. Cause if you think of a wheel its basic math, when you add an inch or lose an inch. Your only going to gain or lose 1/2 of an inch. So from 18s to 16s you will lose an inch of clearance. And you'll have .75 inches of room to spare.

 

has anyone tried to drive those pirelli tires in the snow? i might be wrong but they don't look like they will go anywhere and i'd be better off to just buy snow tires/wheels
