Plastic engine cover

What would it hurt to take the black plastic engine cover off and bin it? Is there a reason for it to be there?

All it does is add weight and help trap heat. Ditch it if ya want.

It's now deadening noise in a closet. Mine doesn't sound much louder at all but what I do hear, I like. Since my car is now 3.6 pounds lighter, it's now faster.

On a better side... it does help keep dirt and moisture off of the top of the engine... I'm actually gonna get mine painted... and put it on for show and what-not... I leave it on in bad weather too... but for runnin the strip... it's definately coming off.

It was designed for sound. The whole engine compartment actually was designed to make it as quite as possible. Even that goofy reverse flow air box we have. You'll notice they don't exist on the SS/SC because quite wasn't the objective.
