Is this possible, or out of the question?

Ok, my cobalt is a 06 base LS (in other words, no power windows/locks). I want to add power, but I have no idea where to look, or start.. is this even possible? How much would this cost? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I know that you can get actuators for the door locks. They use them with car alarms, but not too sure on the windows.

Might see if you can scavange some parts from a junk yard. All the wiring should be there I think. Don't hold me to it though.

Anything is possible with enough time and money. If it's not possible for you to do, then just think of it this way - you're saving weight by not having power window motors and lock mechanisms...

You could always trade the 2.2 for a 2.0, they come stock with power.

yea you can get power stuff, it will take a decent amount of time and cash, my dad had a 1932 ford coupe, and put power windows and locks in it, but he also has his own auto body shop and a lot of knowledge so he knows what he is doing.. The price would vary from what shop did it for you because of labor rates and storage, if its more then 1 days work.

Best bet would look around at the local junkyards. Just get the entire door panel and everything, just have to color match. I picked up the whole rear suspension off a SS/SC for $400, springs hubs everything. The supercharger was gone the minute it was towed in lol. Just gotta look, gems to be found. You try and do it through GM and i'll be expensive. Some companies (Autoloc) make universal stuff, but you'll have to do custom switches and the like.

rummage a wrecker to start, then talk to gm.
but i say install it yourself, if anything goes wrong in the future (and im sure it eventually will) you will know how to repair it. also check out ebay, sometimes they have some used parts too.

if you do a search on google for "autoloc", they make pretty good kits for power door locks and windows

in a base the fuses aren't "wired" in the fuse box that normally go to power locks, windows, sunroof, etc. The door wiring harness also only contains speaker wires, so yes it will be a decent project. I'm in the same boat as you, but with 4 doors to contend with. I don't want the windows, just the locks and alarm.

The locks would be easy. Just a solenoid with a rod that clamps to the existing rod coming out of the latch. Solenoid mounts with a simple bracket. I installed a set on a Honda Civic. It only took a few hours including wiring. We didn't setup a remote setup though. I would guess most alarms just have outputs to trigger the solenoid.

The crank windows would be tough without a kit.

because the dealership will rape you, i can do a name brand remote start with actuators and power windows for about $600.00, not bad seeing that best buy charges 450.00 for just the alarm installed

Ditto. Probably 1500 worth of parts if you bought "complete" used doors.
