Went down to my local chevy dealer today, Priced out the ss with the options I wanted.
No sunroof, no XM, No side curtain air bag, Just the G85 package. Came to 21,480.
Is this a pretty good price?

while we're on the topic of prices: Does anybody know exactly what the GMS discount % is on these cars...I'm thinking about ordering one of these soon, but if it's not low enough I'm gonna buy an SRT-4 instead.
Not a bad price, its invoice pricing, mine with the same option (minus all other options) is $21,436. This is straight invoice pricing +$49 for the dealer. From the sounds of it, it looks like a good price since it seems several other people are getting quotes of MSRP that would equate out to $23,495

Further, "Invoice" "MSRP" "Sticker" or whatever term a dealer will use, does not reflect actual cost. Further, on the actual GM invoice that the dealer uses, it will say on the bottom that the numbers listed on the invoice "do not represent the actual cost to the dealership for the specific vehicle."
Keep in mind that every time the dealer washes the car, it costs money. Every time they put gas in it, it costs money. Every time the vehicle sits on the lot, it is insured under their "floor plan" and that... you guessed it, costs money.
Do yourself a favor and figure out exactly what the vehicle is worth to you. Everything has a cost. The most ignorant thing you do is go in and ask for the "best price" because the best price for my paycheck is the price on the sticker, the best price for the buyer is $0 and the only number that matters either way is the one you drive away with in the new vehicle.
So figure out what the vehicle is worth to you, and go buy one for that price. But be reasonable, anything under sticker is a gift, and you only "deserve" what you ask for and what you can afford.
Think about this, if they wanted you not to negotiate, they would've priced them like Saturns. But there is a limit to how low they can go.
Further, paying over invoice is like tipping at a restaurant. Are you expecting to be treated like you're at the Mickey D's, or like you're at Chez Royale. Tipping isn't mandatory, but it is appreciated. If your salesman has earned it, buy the car from them, not because of price, but because you like the car and the service you received.

But asking is always nice, before you tell them how to do their job.
Besides, you went from "cost" to "invoice" which are two totally different numbers, as was stated in my post, but thank you for being so kind.

Re
The dealer I went to offered me $300 over invoice. And said Invoice is their actual cost, there is no gimmicks where the invoice is inflated.
I paid GM Supplier Price anyway because the place I work didn't realize they have that benefit.
I would think dealers make more money off of GM Supplier Pricing, as GM foots the "discount" bill, not the dealer...

The dealership actually receives more money on certain vehicles for selling it at GMS or Supplier than Invoice, the Cobalt is one of those vehicles.
Holdback and how GM pays their dealerships is very very confusing and would take much more than just one post to explain it. But the basic idea is that GM gives each dealership a certain amount for selling a certain vehicle. The dealership gets more when they sell it at Supplier or GMS than they do for selling it at invoice.
Again, invoice is not "actual cost" but it's easier to explain it that way than to tell the "complete truth" so most salesmen or dealerships will call it "cost." That way they avoid an arguement where they have to give up their "secrets" just to sell a vehicle.
Further, som dealerships may never calculate "actual cost" on their vehicles, as long as they break even with all the vehicles sold. That way they can lose some on one vehicle and gain it back on another without hurting anybody's pockets.
$300 over invoice sounds like a good price, what color did you get?
