Problem With Multiple Things :(

Well, my cobalt has neared 5000 miles. I have installed a system since I've gotten it and yesterday I got into my car and went to browse through the info panel and my information button wouldn't change anything. So I pulled off the trim panel and checked the connection it seemed. Then my air conditioner does not work. I change it to all the different setting and it only comes out of the defrost onto my front window. Then I went to hit for the cold air, it did not work. My rear defrost does not work now when I hit that button also. Also, the cruise control does not work. I am taking it to the dealer on Thursday. I was hoping someone could give me a heads up on what it might be. I thought it might be my system (was installed professionaly and have had for 2 months with no problems) but I am not sure. Hopefully warranty covers it ... btw, the car hasn't moved for about 4 weeks other than like a 10 minute drive to the conveinence store here and there (own a motorcycle so the car has been neglected lol).

same thing happened on my old 01 maxima. i had a big system installed by a good shop. Then 3 months later my air doesnt work, and it only wants to blow out hot air, comes to find out, while they were back their splicing wires and **** they slit a hole in one of the hoses=leaking freeon, then that caused more problems=brand new air conditioner from Nissan under warranty. I ended up selling my system because of it, so consequently im not putting a system in my Cobalt or touching it for that reason. Sorry to go on, but maybe your problem is similar, well have to find out..good luck to ya, are you going to take the system out? b/c i took everything out before i took it to the dealer...thats prob your best bet unless you have some big pimpin' 5 tv's 4g headunit etc

We installed a system in my friend's SIR last night and had a few problems not only getting the panel off but working in the back. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if while removing the center console, panels, etc. wires were accidently sliced or became loose because my god is it tight back there :lol As for the cruise control that one has me confused. If the orange light isn't on then your cruise control is turned off, but if you can't get it on period you've got me. Hopefully the dealership can figure out what is going on quickly and get it fixed up for you...I can't imagine the system shorted anything out.

Info Center/Cruise/Air are not controlled by anything to do with the radio, so most likely, you maybe ungrounded something, pulled a wire out of its harness (can happen, not hard) or even you spliced a wire that has to do with it.

The only reason I go on and on abotu that is becuase it happeend to me in my 97 Mazda MX-6. I spliced "what i thought" was a wire for my stock tachometer, ended up being one of the main grounds and shorted out the whole car.

The thing is with a system, you really shouldn't have to mess with anythign besides the stereo wiring harness, power to the amp, ground to teh amp, and the remote wire off of your aftermarket head unit.

Basically, trace all the wiring you did to your car, becuase if they look at it, and you caused the problem, they won't cover it.

Good luck.

i think i know what u did. to put an system in u need to splice into a wire that keeps your amp off when u shut off your car. so check some of the red wires under your steering column and see if any other wires arent connected with it. cuz i splice mine into the ignition switch so when i start and shut off my car the amp does the same. i installed mine myself and it works perfect. if u got anymore questions just post em...

Well the people who installed it spliced into my rear speakers. I kept the stock radio in. The only thing they ran was the remote wire so that it does turn on and off with my car. So it is a possibility that maybe it is something underneath the steering column. My crusie control btw does light up but when I go to set it ... it does nothing.

I used to work at an Audio shop here in canton/akron area called Horizon Audio/Motorsports. Just never did one on a Cobalt.

Well, I left my subwoofers in there. I didn't care lol ... my dealership didn't either. They did however only tell me that the wiring was very bad on the car. The fuse eventually blew and the wiring was all screwed up and that was about the extent of what they told me so I really didn't find out much other than they fixed it and put in a new fuse.
