question about alarm

ok. a month ago or so. a fellow member's car was broken into while he was at school. i did try and search for the thread and was not successful. ok so they got into his cobalt with a flat head as some may know right at the exterior driver side door handle. now my question is. Why didn't the alarm go off? they didnt take the car but did open the door w/out a key and stole his stereo. is there any other reason other than the owner didnt arm the alarm? if he reads this please chime in and say you armed the alarm. that would help me out.

cliff notes:
cobalt broken into with flat-head, alarm armed. alarm didnt go off. why?

That would be my car. Yes I alarmed my alarm but it has been ******* up for a while now, sometimes I have to press the button 20 times to get it to arm. So maybe my alarm system is faulty, or maybe the way they opened the door didn't alarm it. I honestly don't have the answer.

Ive been getting that with my remote as well. Try prying the remote open, take the battery out, then put it back, and turn it a little bit, I think the battery connection just needs to be scuffed a little to make sure the metal is contacting... it works fine after I did that.

Yeah I actually opened both my fobs up to find that the Inside of the circuit board the Sotter were the Battery connecter meets the circuit board was broke off so I had to resotter both of them back, I will post pictures on how I did that tonight hopefully, and I opened up my sisters remote for her G6 and hers was doing the same exact thing.

The thief that hit my car in August was smart enough not to open the door for the factory alarm to go off. He just hung there through the window taking my stuff. Still couldn't identify the bastard from the video though.

If the alarm is armed, then opening the door will make the alarm go off. I have my car set to honk when the alarm is armed and honk when it is disarmed, that way I know it definately armed. I have had some problems with the connectors on my remote and having to clean them as well.

Also, you had to SOLDER the connection, not sotter it.
