Question about pickup milage
Question about pickup milage
I went to pick up my SS today from the dealership, did the usual inspection.. wheels body interior but i forgot to check the milage. I drove the beauty home and as I was getting out I noticed it had 101 KM on it
My house is less than 10km from the dealership and the gas milage on the info center reads 22L/100km. putting two and two together im thinking the sales man took my car for a bit of a spin and wasn't exactly going easy on it either. How many miles or KM were on your SS when you picked it up?
Well people do test drive cars. And they do rip them hard. When I test drove one, the dealer told me to give it all it had. If the cobalt you are buying has more than 50 miles on it, that is where I would bargin the price..
I had the car pre ordered.. it arrived at the dealer monday they sent the front wheels to a repair shop because there were scratches on them, i picked it up today (thursday). People dont test drive pre-sold cars
My friends' SS had 16 miles on it... it's about 50 miles back home from the dealership on one of the fastest roads in northern New York state and I don't recall the speedometer dropping below 110mph all the way.
My base coupe had 5 miles on it when I picked it up.

My Cobalt SS/SC was a pre-ordered vehicle. It had seven miles on it when it arrived at the dealership and I put five miles on it during my test drive, so all in all, it had 12 miles on it when I took it home.
When I get my SS/SC, I'm definitely ordering it. I don't like the whole prospect of buying a car off the lot that already has some miles on it, who knows what could have happened during test drives and the like.
I've also noticed that when new cars aren't driven for a few weeks, the brake rotors start to rust up pretty quick. I was checking out a red SS yesterday at the dealer, and you could tell they weren't allowing test drives just by looking at those rotors

My SS/SC had 97 miles on it + the 2 miles of my test drive.
It did give me ammunition to help argue the price down, though. And I'm sure it was beat-on as my warranty is getting quite a work out right now. At least the girls working behind the counter by the customer lounge are nice to look at, since I get to spend so much time there...

Mine had 160 miles on it and was showing a 25mpg fuel economy when i picked it up. - It was driven in from a dealership in syracuse though. (I live in a suburb of buffalo.) So i wasn't too concerned. Personally, I haven't revved it over 4000 yet and i won't do that or drive it over 60mph until i get 500 miles on it. After that though.... it's go time!
I envy all you guys too. You all got to drive your cars after you got them. I brought mine home then came down with a bad case of chicken pox and havent been able to drive in almost a week. (Meds.)

If a car has more than 15 or 20 miles on it... it has more than likely been out and you should negotiate the price... The Cobalt SS s/c I mean
It is a performace car and you arent paying for a badly broken in performance car... you can actually lose 5-10hp by not breaking it in properly as well as decreasing the life of the car.
My dealership doesnt let anyone test drive any SS s/c they get unless they are seriously buying it and they do not let them romp on it for that reason becuase they dont want a bad car and they dont want the customer to mess up their own car
my car had 17
each dealership usually uses a demo car to let people drive, but if you are serious about a single car, theyll let you drive that one
dont forget about factory testing, dealership testing, and acquisitons

Mine had 25 miles on it from the dealer.
When they get the car the dealer has to do a road test/pre delivery inspection before they give you the car. Maybe they decided to make it a longer inspection, maybe the factory tech decided to make it a long inspection before they shipped it to the dealer.
You will never know. No use worrying about it.
As for break in the manual says you must vary the engine speed during the first 500 miles, so chances are when people are driving the hell outta it they are varying the enigne speed.
