I'm also from DC..

Hey Chris
I'm from DC and I've been waiting on the SS forever. I haven't pre-ordered but I would like to get the SS as soon as possible. My current car (1992 Eclipse, 170k+ miles) is quickly falling apart. Any info you could give me would be much appreciated!
Thanks again!!

I live in Rockville, MD. I have been to your dealer before (if your the one I am thinking off of Quince Orchard.) I have my SS S/C on order too but I am going up to upstate NY to get mine since my father works for a dealer up there.

Unfortunetly I am about a block from Rockmount Chevy so I go there now for service.

Question upshift light?

Chris,

Thanks for offering to answer questions.

I have heard that the manual transmission Cobalt's might have one of those "Upshift Lights" on the instrument panel. Can you tell me if it's true, and if so, can it be electronicaly disabled by the dealer like the Chrysler dealers can disable the "lock all doors above 10 MPH" feature on their cars?

Thanks,

Steve

What's the big deal with having a shift indicator? It isn't like you need to use it. I have one on my current car and I don't even recognize the thing anymore, in fact I didn't notice it go out until the rest of my dash went out.

And my guess is that just about anything like that can be disabled with how cars are so reliant on computers these days.

the question about the shift light is interesting. Typically when Chevy makes a performance model they do not put a shift light in (or as I like to call it "Dumb A** shift light") BUT since the cobalt does come in other models I think we will see the same thing we did in the Cav, a shift light on all models. Chances are it will be a small shift light like the recent Cavs, basically an arrow pointing up that is about 1/4" tall. I'll have to see if I can get the reps at the auto show this weekend to turn on the inst. panel for me and I'll report back with what I find.

dealerships around me already have the ls coupe 1sb, start looking around at other dealerships for your car just because you ordered it doesnt mean you have to buy it

yeah the recent news of the shift light has reared its ugly head. i dont think there is one...there are some pics around the site here somewhere that show the insturment panel on the cars that were at the recent auto shows (production models), and the flash lit up the panel and you can see the outline of the lights...meh, ill look for it...

This is off a picture from a "member's ride" that has a manual. I tried to enhance the outlines a little but I can't tell if there is an indicator light.

Steve,

Sorry it took so long to answer I've been sick. To answer your question yes there is a shift light on the dash above the tach. I talk to my shop foreman and he said you could turn it off. He is finding out how for me so i can tell you all. Hope that answers your question.

We have had our first coupe come in as well. It was sold the first day it was here. I checked an we have some more coming in, when i don't know yet. I do have quite a few LS's (4dr) and LT's instock (4dr) as well. The coupes LS 's should be in production now and see them in less than a month i hope. LT's should be here after that, and the SS after that. Hope this info helps you all out.

I will keep you all posted with any new info I get.

chris

Thats us. Hope you had a good experience when you came in. Always helps to have family in the dealership. I haven't ordered mine yet waiting to see what color combo looks the best. I have seen some good pics on the net of a few nice looking tuner cars the black , blue and the orange looks good. I like the smoked tail lights on a few color combo's. Leaning towards the blue on blue with black rims but haven't decided yet? Have found lots of aftermarket parts as well.

I have an arrival blue SS with ebony inserts on order. I was looking at wheels and I found some nice grey MSR wheels (style 105) . I think grey would look sharp or maybe white. Black and Blue don't tend to go together very well, unless it's a black eye.
