This is just to see who would win a race between two of my friends. One is a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC with stage 2, GMPP exhaust, NGK plugs. The other has a 1996 mustang cobra with a CAI and exhaust. Vote only twice for the two out comes you think will happen. Thanks
I am the friend of Blown SS. Our other friend is the one with the 1996 Cobra. I was just wondering if you guys think I can take it with my mods. I know from a dig, I have a feeling I am going to get my ass handed to me. I figured from about a 35 mph roll, so I can be sitting in 2nd. From experience, Cobalts to not get off the line worth ****. I never actually launched it yet, so I think I obviously have the better edge from a roll. Any one have experience with a Cobra non SC or a GT? Thanks.
youll get your ass handed to you ive raced one just ****** around while he was just chirpin tires and i was pushin full throthle he was still next to me when he hooked up he was gone so you might pull a little bit but in the end hell win
you dont think from like a 30ish roll I wont be able to hang with it? Its the '96 Cobra, not supercharged. I know its like rated at like 305 Hp or something, but its heavy. I just wasnt sure if a stage 2 would keep up.
A 96 with those mods , the Cobalt will have both scenario's covered . Thats if the Cobalt driver can get the car off from a dead stop somewhat cleanly . I lined up with a 99 Cobra a few weeks ago at the track ....my 2.19 60ft 13.98@100 to his 2.21 60ft. 14.45@98 . No clue if the car was stock or not I never talked to the guy .
They were heavy ass cars with the IRS that made just a few ticks more RWHP than a LT1 F-body . A 96-01 Cobra with 4.11 or 4.30 gears is a different story though . Either of those ring gears tremedously help that heavy stang in the motivational department

Also, if you guys were gonna run a cobra, what way would you think would be best? Roll? 20mph.. 30mph.. just wondering what everyone has to say about the matter. Thanks a lot. I did try a couple times.. pushing the throttle down a couple times when I was out driving, rolling at like 5 mph maybe, just spins and wheel hops sometimes.. it sucks. I guess if I would have to launch it hard, just to ease into the throttle im assuming? launch at like 1500 rpms or so?
In order to get a feeling of a roll race, wouldn't you look at the trap speeds of the cars? If your cobalt can trap like 103-104, wouldn't that make you able to stay even with a GTO or even pull away since they trap about the same?
That is what I would assume. I think from a roll it should be pretty close. I know from a dig, he should just launch. I obviously am gonna spin like hell or wheel hop. I think from like a 30 mph roll, I should be able to run with it, if not pull. I guess we will find out in a couple weeks.
From a dig the Cobra should win,but from a roll the Cobalt might win if the Cobra is near stock.I've got a '01 Cobra and the Cobalt and stock to stock it wouldn't be much of a race, but then again the '01 Cobras are the strongest of the N/A Cobras[mid 13s at 105-106mph],and quite a bit stronger than the 96-98s.Now with the gears and bolt ons its a high 12 second car.But on the other side,my Cobalt is bone stock and I would imagine the stage 2 kit really wakes these cars up.Just race him and see what happens!!!!
Snakeman, your giving the 2001 Cobra a way to much credit.
And some of you need to take note that the 1995-1998 Cobra wasn't a IRS equipped car.
As for performance the SS/SC will kill it from a dig or a roll, they are about equal to a 199-2004 GT in straight line performance but handle a little better due to larger sway bars and stiffer spring rates.
All of the high revving DOHC 4.6's have serious potential but in stock form a 1996-1998 is pathetic. Even though it was rated at 305HP a 275HP rated F-Body make short work of them.

I raced an 98 SVT Cobra that had X-Pipe, Cat-Back and CAI, I put 1 car length on him from a dig... he wouldnt race from a roll after that
I've also raced a 2003 SuperCharged Cobra from a 40mph roll and was neck to neck with him...
