yes i know this probably has been discussed. i wanna know what you guys suggest as far as radar detectors. most of you know ill be boosted soon and well..lets say i cant afford any more tickets. i need something that picks it up way before hand and can hear if im bumpin. price range is probably $200 max. thanks

 

My only experience is between the Valentine One and Escort Redline, the best two on the market. I can say I get much less false alerts in the city and on the highway with the Redline than the valentine, but both have about the same range. If you're willing to pay $500 =P

I caught my Escort 8500 for $100 open box at a American here in town. So you just have to look for the deals or check craigslist. It can only save you man. But remember don't rely on it at night because the cops can just wait till they see your headlights and then turn the radar on then yours goes off and your already fucked.

 

I know it sounds crazy but I have the "iradar" I use it with and without my iphone but it has saved me 3 times already and the range is great. picked up a cop from pretty far away this morning. at the time I was not sure where he was at but I was doing 79 in a 60 and it was going off... he was on the other side of the freeway and it took about 10-15sec for me to see him. With him going about 65+ and me doing 79 the other way it was a pretty good distance speaking of the terms that we were closing in on each other. its well worth the money IMO. I myself though have wanted like "top of the line" radar

Dont waste your money, just drive smart, only street race on highways at night with no traffic. Has worked for me ever since I got my license 5 years ago.

 

I personally have the Escort 9500IX. I had the Redline... Didn't like it. Wayyyy too many false alarms.

 

I tired that for the past 2 years, resulting in 2 tickets. I could have had a Redline for that price now

 

happen to me, mine went off as i was doing 118...

 

Lol... something like this happened to me with a undercover cop at like 2 am... passed him at about 140~ on the same side of the road... needless to say I didn't stop... Had it floored at 160 for a good 20 seconds... topped the transmission out... this was about a year ago...

escort 8500, love it. dont even use it anymore though since i only drive 4 miles to work and back but long trips it deff helps.

i suggest hard wiring it over the stupid long cord across the dash to the lighter.

 

The escort is nice has gps in it learns false signals then blocks. Can't remember if it was 9500 or whatever, just remember you get what you pay for. If you wanna play cost money.

I was 16 and freaked out b/c i had only had my car for about 2 months so i pulled over even though i could've kept going I didnt even get an official ticket the trooper was like here's your court date and called my parents. I was literally about 2 miles from home and my parents came and got me so i would drive anymore. ha now i just laugh at it

You do realize every police department in Pennsylvania except the state police use equipment that those radar detectors don't detect? They use a lot of old school methods of just timing you between two points and then calculating your speed. The only time a radar detector will be necessary in PA is on the turnpike or some other state patrolled road. Plus those detectors won't help you for doing a burnout or any other type of violation except speeding. Save your money for your internal build.

 

Which is why I love that , went to visit my GF in PA a few months ago and got a ticket for how you just described... Went to court and they dropped it because of no proof.

 

Lmao nice, yeah I could see that as only beneficial as long as you showed up to court.

 

It's true though. No local police in PA are even allowed to use radar guns. They have other means, means that aren't going to be detected by some radar detector.

 

Any one have any experience with the new Escort set up that allows your radar detector to "talk" with other detectors in the area? I was thinking of going this route but it all depends on how many others use it, the more there are out there the better it would work.

Oh and I love my Escort 8500 saved me all kinds of $$ in fines.

 

So I have this... it works out if other people are reporting cops as they see them... it is nice to see where all the cameras and such are in the map it gives you tho.
