Ram Air

Is there a ram air set up for the cobalts? Cause I was thinking of getting the rk sport hood and I think that would work out good.

To my knowledge there is no RAM Air systems. Ypur best bet would be a cold air intake or forced induction.

Yea, I have an injen CAI right now. I always thought the ram air was better (as long as there's ventalation) then other forms of intakes; is this true?

Yes there is a ram air setup, Combine the RK Sport Hood with the GMPP intake.

I was talking about the air filter that sits right above the throttle body.

It won't show any gains that are worth the cost. I remember this being spoken of many times and I believe it took speeds of 80mph+ for it to even be somewhat effective.

your best bet is the RKsport hood, that is the most direct ram air you can get.

Well, I was talking about a real functional ram air system, not a hood throwing air in and around an intake.

I believe there was a blue cobalt on here that did a custom ram air hood with GMPP intake. he gained an additional 5-10whp on top of the intake gains with his Ram air setup. So yes it works and with looks it is worth the money.

that is the same thing as the RK hood, the only dif. is that the RK runs its to the side. but you could mod the hood to run it just to the TB but then you need a custom filter.

OK, I'm trying to be helpful here, gawd, enough with the " "

Anyway, as you can see in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram-air_intake entry, a RAM Air intake doesn't just push air near a filter, what it does is use the air velocity and shape of the intake to compress the air, allowing more air, not just colder air, into the system. A true Ram Air system (and not a ricer ram air hood above an intake) is physically connected and sealed into the intake system.

I know there is a Ram Air hood, but the GMPP filter - does it actually seal to the hood, and in line with the airflow?

EXACTLY - you can do it with the hood via a CUSTOM setup..... Without it, it isn't true RAM air - just a cold air.

its still ram air, the are is coming in at a high speed do to the fact that its is being pushed in from the scoop on the hood.

True ram air is a closed system.

A true RAM AIR setup FORCES air into the intake. It is physically sealed around in intake so the air has nowhere to go but in. Anything "directing" air that MAY go into the intake or go right past is not TRUE ram air.

An example of true ram air would be my 72 cutlass.

I guess I thought I might get better gains.

Thx for all the help, wasn't too knowledgable about ram air set ups and them actually being closed.
