Ram Air
I don't understand why you think you can't do this.
If you seal the air box on the GMPP intake with a ram air hood it will work. Instead of getting just 5 hp out of an intake you would get 10-15hp with an intake and ram air. It's a decent gain.

SS/SC:

They sell a CAI that moves the Intake to this location:

2.2 and 2.4:

And the top looks like this:

It routes the air to the location of the airbox. So to answer your question, yes... In fact I think it is the most functional of the hoods out there for us.

I also tried to come up with a method of using the ram air intake... but I think it is only effective at some high speed like 110 mph, like already mentioned.... I researched it and came up with that fact also, just to confirm.... for me, with the S/C, it would not work as well... it might do more for a n/a engine..... The thought of getting COLDER air through the intake might help though, like the air funnel in the pic.... I tried to think of a way to get the air filter to colder outside air, but it might risk getting soaked in water, would mess with the mass air sensors, and so on.. so probably not worth it??.... How about using some kind of air cooling on a heat exchanger for an extra intercooler or something???
Um...no. A CAI is pulling from inside the fender, whereas a ram air will be pulling air directly from the atmosphere which is "in theory" colder air than a cold air intake. As long as you're getting lower temp air it should be better than a cai as long as it's not a restrictive setup (ie not filtered at the induction opening). Have to protect from rain.
I believe the CA front mount air intake is closer to a ram air setup due to the mounting location...but it's still restrictive.
Same theory...forcing cool air into the engine bay. It's actually not a horrible idea for an lsj, even if just use for ventilation rather than for intake air. But the cold air needs to be routed into the engine bay.
