Question Reading the dipstick!!

Ok I've changed my oil yada yada.. But I've noticed for the second time that the DS is difficult to read.. I've put in the recomended amount of oil but still what a pain in the ass to try and read the DS.. Yes I have driven the car since then but its just misleading.. Any advice on how to read the DS? No I'm not blonde thanks

Sorry EROD of this is in the wrong area, I did try to figure out where this thread belongs!

Look to see if the oil line is between the two lines with the hatching

If you can't read that then...well...you might want to take an iq test

ummm... there's 2 lines... if it's below the bottom line, there's not enough oil... above the top line, too much... in between.... dun dun dun........ Perfect!!

Edit: Sorry for the HHHUUGGGEEEEE picture hahaha

If it's below the MIN mark, it says to add 1 qt of oil. other than that, don't over fill

this should make the thread worthwhile, at what percentage do you get the oil changed?

lol, funny people in here!

My oil is soo clean being new it is tough to tell as I get an odd reading almost every time.. I know how to read it but it just seems odd as it does look like it over filled!!! NOT.. I put only 4 litres in it just to be safe and the dip stick makes it look like its over filled.. Ok lets try this responce,lol..

If you let as much oil drain as possible then put the correct amount of oil back in for that engine, your good

If you drive an SS/SC DO NOT go by the manual. Mine seems to fluctuate (I know, makes NO sense at all) between 6.5 and 7 quarts of oil per oil change. It's best to go by the dipstick. You should have any problems reading it, new oil or not. If it's not reading on the dipstick, you're low, slowly add a little bit of oil at a time until it reads. Turn the car on and let it run for about 30 seconds to get some oil cycling around, chances are it won't be reading on the dipstick again, put a little more in.

I had one oil change done at the dealership and they just went by the manual and the car didn't register any oil on the dipstick at all. I had to add another quart before seeing anything. Drove it a day and it was low again.

I put in 6.5 Litres in mine, and it was over full, so i sucked out about 700 mls, and now it's reading in between half and almost full. So next time i'll fill 5.7 litres. And i change the oil at probably 15-20% depending how long since i changed it (it's stored for most of winter).
