recall related

i went to my dealership with regards to the new ignition recall, and he says their wont be any work getting done till early april when parts arrive. thats ok,
but i had my buddy that works there run my vin and nothing showed up? i know its still early in the making, but it confused me and him too. im a 05 sedan.

i also got the entire vehicle report from him, which was cool to see. previous owner had the dealer do everything. also came from across the province and worked its way to my drive way.

This is the response I got when the dealer told me my car was not included in the recall. I emailed the Chevy Customer Care rep from another forum this is the reply.

Hi Wayne Vanderhoff,

Sorry if there's been any confusion with your dealership. All Cobalt models spanning from 2005-2007 are included in the recall. There has been a delay with updating the system to link VINs to the recall, so that might be the reason your dealership responded that way.

We are working with our suppliers to expedite the availability of parts. We expect to have parts available beginning in April. Customers will receive a letter in early April. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you for posting that. I removed my post so there is no confusion.

But all of you know this can happen to any car right? In most car manuals they even call out that added weight from key chains can cause issues.

Do you have issues with reading?

I deleted them because to prevent spreading incorrect info.

oh noes I got hot coffee on me and it burned.

I dont have alot of keys on my chain, mostly because they annoy my knee. if your car has issues with it, take all that **** off. and watch your knee too.

nowadays people dont use common sense anymore.

No problem. After the dealer told me my car wasn't listed I thought the same thing you did until someone else said their car wasn't recalled, and they emailed the service rep and they said his VIN was recalled. I just thought about it I wonder if any HHRs or ions have the same recall?

yeah... If I were you I wouldn't do that, and I'd get that fixed.... it would suck to pull key out one day and it not go back in, and not be able to shut the car off until it runs out of fuel then the batter runs dead....

theres way to kill it without seriously damaging anything.

one way off the top of my head now is choke it out, wouldnt exactly be healthy, but idling at what 600 rpm wont hurt anything a one time deal.

also i can shut the car off with a knife or any other key. i just wanted to test, i cant start it with anything other than the key, but i can just put the lip of anything in the igniton and turn it back, i could probably use my girlfriends finger nail to do it

I heard about this recall yesterday and that it applies to 05-07 cobalts, etc. I have an 09 cobalt SS and I did have this "ignition getting stuck on" problem. They repaired it at the dealership but was there a separate recall of my year? Or am I right to assume they just put a new, but same, ignition cylinder in? I just don't know why it doesn't apply to all years...unless it already has, of course.
