Recomended GAS
Recomended GAS
What is the fuel that everyone is using? Since it is supercharged of course 94 oct would be ideal but the prices on gas are crazy. I have been putting in 89 midgrade what does everyone else use?

91 at the minimum, says it right in the manual. The highest octane I could get at a pump!

You can put whatever grade gas you want in it, you just will not get the performance that the car was designed for with anything less then 91. I have read this question before, among others that always leaves me scratching my head as to why people who bought a performance car now turn around and want to cheap out on things like tires, oil changes, and yes gas. You are really going to bitch about what, $5 a tank?. If you find gas to be to expensive why not go all the way down to 87 and then you can have soccer moms in mini vans smoke you in your cool new car at the lights. Maybe you should read your manual, you know that big book that came with the car in the glovebox with all the scary big words and not enough pictures, instead of posting a well worn and STUPID question on the board for the 100th time.
Ever since seeing a post on one of the cobalt sites about what products to use for what, shell was picked because their premium apparently helps clean the engine or something usefull, so that's all I use.
There is a station nearby though that has "racing fuel" advertised, not sure what octane, but I think it's over $5 a gallon.

dont go cheap on your gas! with a 13 gallon tank, at 20 more cents a gallon that is only $2.60 for your car to run cleaner and more efficient, and get better mileage. Dont be a cheap skate on a 20,000-25,000 investment, well not really an investment since none of the new cars are lol.

Here is my advice:
If you have acess to premium fuel (>=91) use it. If you need to fill up and dont have acess to premium fuel, put the best you can get in the tank. You can run 87 in these cars if you need to...the engine will sense preignition and pull back on the timing advance / richen the mixture and you will lose some performance....please dont do it all the time...only if higher octane gas is not readily availible.
If you are tuned...I would say that you should run premium all the time as the extra boost and heat combined with fooling the MAF could cause problems for you...unless you have a scan gauge and can tune your MAF to allow the engine to inject a richer mixture in the event where you HAD to run 87....but...a rich mixture is a crutch and can be detrimental to your engine if not done properly.
Hope that helps!
