Records on PCM/BCM/OBD2

So I'm just curious, if anyone knows, what is recorded on the "computers" of the Cobalts? Is maximum speed recorded? Amount of no-lift-shifts? Maximum RPM? For how long would it retain this information? Could if be removed without evidence of tampering?

I'm just curious, because I've heard stories of people's vehicles recording information like that and having their warranty voided.

I've also heard stories about OnStar calling people to tell them because of the speed they were just recorded doing, their warranty was now void.

In all fairness, I think the manual should state such limits and not just the bogus claim of "abuse."

I'm not in trouble of losing my warranty (as far as I know) or anything, I'm just curious...

I think that would be a breach of privacy UNLESS it involves criminal investigation. Gm would be opening a can of worms if they monitored how people drive for warranty reasons.

Especially when you are being monitored without prior knowledge .

A friend of mine went ~170 in his tuned 'balt this past weekend... (epic SRT8 chase... though I wouldn't condone it... )

There was no Onstar call.

The same friend and I have also been to the track. (Didn't get to run them though.)

...and still no Onstar call.

I think this grew out of the "black box" that records the last minutes before a crash occured in case the police need to do an accident investigation.
