does anyone know of any horror stories of the water injection kits? i don't plan on running an alky/methanol/water mix in it, if anything at all it would be like a 10% mix...
the kit i bought does do alky or methanol/water, but for right now i want to run just water for a while until i can get some experience with the stuff.
since w/a injection does about the same thing as nos, why is it so much safer than nos?

It does not do the same thing as Nitrous. It has a similar effect to intercooling. It cools the intake charge to keep down detonation. On my old 3G eclipse I used it instead of an intercooler and it allowed me to run quite a bit more boost. But you will not feel a surge like you would with Nitrous.
no, the "surge" causes a unheard of amount of speed up in the core of the engine itself. this is what causes the extra wear and tear on the motor. the increase in HP is what causes the damage. as long as u stay within safe parameters you'll be ok. just the thing is, we dont know what safe is on this motor yet...
Nitrous Oxide, or NO2, is not that different from water injection. The biggest difference, is that at around 500*F (easially reached inside the combustion chamber), N02 breaks down into Nitrogen and Oxygen. This added oxygen then burns with the fuel already added and you have a burst of power. Water or alc injection does not provide this additional oxygen. However, not only does it cool the intake charge as mentioned previously, but it also buffers the combustion cycle. This provides a slower flame front, and more efficient and complete fuel burn. However, water or alch injection is really only going to make a measurable difference in a boosted engine.
Water Injection and Nitrous Injection are two COMPLETELY different things.
Nitrous is an Oxidizer, it adds extra oxygen to the combustion. More oxygen + more fuel = more power. It is similiar to supercharging/turbocharging in that aspect (more oxygen, more fuel, more power), which is why it is classified as "Forced Induction" or "Power Adder."
Water(/Methanol) injection is a flame retardant and air cooling device. It is designed to elminate knock allowing a car to run more timing and/or more boost. First, WI slows down the burn rate of the combustion, similiar to what higher octane fuel does. The higher octane helps reduce/eliminate predetonation (knock) allowing the engine to run more timing and/or boost. Timing and boost will both add power. Second, WI cools the air, similiar to a swamp cooler. Simply put as water(and methanol) evaporates it cools the air around it. Colder air = denser air; denser air + more fuel = more power (but no where near the power of a true power adder such as Nitrous or supercharging).
As a side note, you can run Water Injection and Nitrous together. (If you're running Water/Methanol, then you'll want to reduce the amount of Methanol used). Water Injection will effectively increase the octane, reducing the amount of timing needed to be "pulled" for the shot of nitrous, allowing you to get more power with less nitrous.

Not to sound like a complete n00b, but I know when I see something I know nothing about. And I know absolutely nothing about the WI (water injection). How exactly effective/safe/conservative (if that) is this system? What are some brands? How well, and can it, run with an already Supercharged, or Twin-Charged motor?
I'm interested in this... haven't been a great fan of Nitrous Oxide since the fanboys, but this seems a bit more interesting if it will allow us to obtain higher boosting levels.

SRT-4 guys have been running Water/Methanol injection pretty successfully. I think most (if not all) SRT-4's over 300whp on the stock turbo (without using Nitrous) are using WI. Some have been successful in using High Octane Mode (available on Stage II and Stage III) with Water Injection and pump gas (HOM requires at least 100 octane fuel). The quickest (11.5) Stage III car uses Water/Methanol Injection.

There's a thread on SRTForums about it in the performance section (I believe it's been made a sticky).
Basically the mods to get a Stock SRT-4 to 300whp are:
Aftermarket Front Mount Intercooler (The stocker is a bit small)
3 inch exhaust (turbo back)
map clamp (SAFC, Dasmopar clamp, ED emanage, or anyones SAFC)
Return fuel line kit w/ rising rate fuel pressure regulator
Aftermarket WGA@ 20-22 psi Boost
Plugs gapped @ .30-.32
94-110 octane (Or pump gas w/ Water/Methanol Injection)
No boost leaks
12.5 MAX a/f ratio. Air Fuel should be 11.5-12.5
Stage 1 or Stage 2 injectors

Is it safe? Yes... Is it reliable? Yes... Does it work? Well, put it this way, several WW2 engines used it with WEP (War Emergency Power), which basically turned on water injection, and cranked the boost (Manifold Pressure) to almost double power in most cases (off a 1500 hp engine, that's a lot)...
