Was driving about 50mph when a guy swerved into my lane to avoid rearending a pickup truck i swerved to miss him, caught some gravel/dirt ??, possibly tapped in the rear not sure. Slid across the roadway into a parked garbage truck. Cops are looking at video from a business trying to find the other vehicle because no one stopped. I'm fine, bumps bruises and a few cuts and very lucky. Ego is a little bruised because I drive a lot and never in my life lost control of a vehicle trying to avoid an accident which happens a few times a day in Northern Virginia.

I'll miss my cobalt, bought it march 2009 when I was very broke and need a good cheap car. Bought it with 26k and it had just under 137000 miles and not an issue with it. Great little car that served me well and in my opinion did it's job in this crash.

I'm just very thankful I was alone in the car. Rest in Peace little cobalt, you served me well!

Wow!

Good to see you made it out relatively injury free.

By the looks of it, its VERY lucky you didn't have a passenger.

Any ideas on what you will be replacing it with?

One of the few reasons why I decided to install a dash camera in my car.

Very glad you're ok.

How much you want to bet the pickup driver was doing something with his phone at the time?? Sounds like he was completely unaware of his surroundings.

I was involved in a wreck like that once.

What I was told by the cop is to let the person swerving hit you instead of swerving.

Probably not everyones first reaction though.

I told the cop next time I'm going apply the brakes and let the other vehicle hit me. At least it won't be my fault. Although he did not write me a ticket however the insurance company has stated I am at fault. 1st at fault accident in 19 years of driving.

What's next... I was thinking about picking up a used 5th gen next summer when people start dumping them for the new 6th gen. Might being doing that a little sooner than I wanted.

Most importantly you're okay.

It's bull **** how the insurance figures at fault, my family has been screwed recently by this. Last winter a girl in her first few months of driving spun out in a snowstorm and was sitting in the oncoming lane, drivers door was right in the middle of oncoming traffic, which was my brother going about 35 in a 45, probably would have killed here if he didn't swerve and just hit the front of her car but his vehicle wouldn't have been totaled, instead one side of the SUV was destroyed clipping her car and the other when he went into the ditch.

The next involved me, going through a green light this old russian **** pulled out just enough to get his rear bumper around, guy barely spoke english. I ended up sliding into him and hit his back passengers side with my front drivers side. Although the cop believed me because it's a busy intersection, no one stopped for proof of my story.

Both of these accidents we were given 100% at fault. Now we're close to being dropped even if we report an accident with a deer. It's almost like not having insurance at all. I as well now have a dash cam.

It's a good thing you didn't have a passenger. Their head would have hit the garbage truck and popped open. Pictures like this make me glad I picked a car with side curtain airbags. I'm not sure if they would have helped in this situation, but they may at least give the passenger a chance.

Damn man glad that your ok. Karma has a funny way of working itself out, that guy who swerved into your lane will get what's coming to him and you'll be off to better things.

And I think instead of a ps vita ima buy a gopro to keep in my dash after the near misses I've had...
