Rims or Engine?

Hello all. First let me apologize if this question gets asked alot. I did some searches but I have an LS and found it rather hard to search for topics just on it alone.

I have about 600 dollars to spend and would like to know what you think would be worth more at the moment. I am not trying to make my car superfast, or match an SS, but a little more power is never bad . I am also currently in the process of redoing the interior.

So my question then is, what do you think would be better, Rims or upgrades to the engine? how far could 600 take me in terms of power and such? I am very new to alot of this so I would probably have to get most of it installed for me...just something to think about. Thanks!

Save your money for a better day and a better car.

If you absolutely MUST spend it... buy a Nitrous Kit from OTTPerformance:

From this thread:

And learn to install everything yourself. This Website is FULL of people that can help you with just about everything you want to do with your car. All you have to do is ask and/or search the How-To section.

That day could be a while off. Bought it 2 years ago and now has 53k miles, but i will have it paid off by end of the year. Problem is, though when I move out, I need the extra money that would of went to a car payment for a rent payment, so I dont really see a new car in the to near future...though I would be open to some suggestions. I currently owe 6400, and a SS at any dealership near me is at least 16k...

1. Why don't you put your $600 towards paying your car off?

2. My SS is for sale. $14,500

3. Save your money and use it next year to pay rent.

I've been down that road. Modding your base model get you NO WHERE. You are just throwing your money away. It actually DECREASES the value of the car.

May I suggest a cold air intake..? It will make it a little more peppy, sound a little better, and have a little bit better gas mileage. Plus its not too expensive and you can save the rest of the money for rent or something.

I disagree with that. The 2.2 with the 5 speed has some potential. The auto are much harder to see gains because they gearing of the tranny. You're throwing away money if you mod any car. If he is going to keep the car until you can't drive it anymore(Like me) you're not going to care much about the resale value.

OP you either try one of the ebay intakes some of the other 2.2 people are using or you can buy one used off another member. If you're going to put any rims on the car you'd want it lowered a tad due to the how high the car sits stock. You got to pay to play.

Intake and exhaust will run a little less then 600 and add some performance to your engine.

Where can you buy rims for $600?

yeah...but your in ohio lol. I already pay 900 a month on my car, with no payment due till august of 2010. So I figured I could still pay the 300 a month I should pay, and have 600 to have a few modifications. All the interior is going to be vinyl, so if I ever wanted to sell it, it would all come off. Not to delve to deep, but..you know I make 1500 a month, with only 200 rent, 125 car insurance + 100 gas + 100 food + 300 car so that only leaves 725 for 925 for rent + utilities. I just thought it would be much easier to move out without a car payment leaving me 1200 a month. Kinda keeps me in the safe zone. Thats why I pay 900 atm, I can afford it now to make it easier later.

If I could get a good finance (my credit score is good), then I might look at a SS...not band new though..I know my trade in value is only gonna net me like 500 bucks atm.

And the tires are stock, so their 15', so the rims were nothing special at all since I was keeping the tires with the car and not getting a package deal. The vinyl I could always put into an SS, but if i did that, then I wouldn't get any rims.

I deliver. And your payments would stay about the same.

Either way... like I said before... click on the links I provided.

PM Fast98 and say you wanna be one of the NOS kit testers and you'll get a kit for like $400 shipped.

Then you can get a header, Downpipe, and Cat-Back - shot a 50 shot - and make close to 200hp.

If I had an LS and I was going to spend some money on it first thing I would be looking at are the wheels and tires.

Its to bad its red . I had a tela camaro before I got a 04 red mustang and my insurance jumped from 150 to 320 and dropped back down to 135 when I got the black LS. I wont go back to a red car till im over 24.

Well, back when I had my RX-7, I did wheels first, engine performance 2nd.

But on my Cobalt, it was the other was around.

On an LS....honestly, if I owned one, first thing I would do is get some nice wheels and lower it. Now, being as I have a 2.4SS, it was a little bit different situation, as my car came a tad lower sitting, plus it had 17" wheels already on it when I got it. I did intake, full exhaust, and a few suspension tweaks (springs/strut bar) first, then I got wheels.

2 years later, im on my 2nd set of aftermarket wheels (19"s at the moment ), and my car is pretty much a finished product, so it just goes to show that if you take your time, even if your broke like me, the car will eventually come together nicely.
