Roll Pin Replacement Trouble INSTALL

Hello,

I bought my car with a Rigged "Short Throw" shifter (aka the previous owner took the stock shifter and cut it down). The car was very hard to shift without the proper length lever arm.

Back in October 2011, I broke my shift linkage cables. Replaced the shifter with a TWM sts and got new cables from ZZP. The shifting became smoother, but I still feel like I hit a wall when shifting into any gear, although it is really bad for third gear.

I saw the post about the Roll Pin PI, where the pin hits the shift assembly. I tried to find more info on that but could not.

So, I decided either my transmission is toast or the roll pin may be broken, but stuck inside the linkage. I ordered race quality roll pins from the legend we know as John Powell, and I got a 3/16 inch pin punch from Napa Auto Parts.
//** END OF OVER ELABORATED STORY **//

Now I am stuck. People say they replace the roll pins "all the time" through fusebox removal access. Could someone explain to me how lifting up on the linkage will enable me to get the punch straight, with enough room to hammer the old pin out? It appears that I would have to remove the motor mount.

Here's a picture of the described scenario:

I don't know if I even have a problem really, its just much harder to shift than in any other car I have driven and it gets worse on cold days. Today, its 70 degrees out and it works very close to where I want it. It is smooth, but I still hit those walls, especially when the car is at WOT.

no help

"Now you use this roll pin pusher to push the new pin in. Tap with a hammer."

That's all the how to says. Does not help whatsoever. I have looked through that entire thread looking for my answer already.

Thanks, though

progress

I put the jack under the transmission near the front engine mount location to support it. Then I took out the 3 bolts on the top of the trans mount, and then the 4 out of the frame. The mount is shown in the below picture. Btw, one of the bolts that connects the frame to the mount is a royal PITA, have to use a box wrench and there is very little space. I recommend using one of those novelty ratcheting box wrenches from Sears.

However, now I cannot get the mount out of the car as it is simply wedged in a tight space. I tried pushing the roll pin out with the punch and a hammer, but it still had no effect.

Any more suggestions?

remove the rear lower transmission mount, and support the engine in a safe spot with a jack. slowly let it down until the engine rotates back far enough to make room to punch it out. you may want to disconnet your downpipe when doing this if you have to rotate it far enough.
