what do you mean by your Porsche swap? and seeing this project car makes me wonder about the tranny they used. what did they do to get it to bolt on? i doubt the bolt pattern was the same so what type of custom work...it gives me hope for seeing a RWD cobalt that has an LSJ.
i have a 2.2l l61 swapped porsche 944. it still runs the porsche torque tube and rear mounted transaxle. i have a build thread in the "other cars" section.
the transmission setup in this is simple. start out with a bellhousing from a company called quad 4 rods, it adapts the ecotec to a gm t5 from an s10 or camaro 4 or 6 cylinder. gm kept things simple and used the same clutch disc spline count on all 4 and 6 cyl cars, so the lsj clutch works just fine.

for the mg swap, thats an aftermarket bellhousing, off the shelf part you can order. the other option would have been to use the transmission from the solstice, it bolts up to any ecotec. it is however expensive and they are fairly long putting the shifter too far back in such a small car.
my 944 swap is an off the shelf aftermarket bellhousing from quicktime performance thats designed to bolt a t56 trans to an ecotec. from there i made a custom adapter plate to bolt it to the porsche torque tube.
