Sad day for a good balt

My friend Tron told me while I was in TN that my friend's SS/SC spontaniously combusted and I thought he was joking... Here is what he sent me when I asked him what he meant:
Dear tru2nrtt777,

You have received a new private message at ImportsNC Online Forums // Your Source for NC Import Scene from Tronn Z31, entitled "Fire.".

This is the message that was sent:

I went out racing with Ed and when we came back, there was a car on fire. It was what's his names Cobalt SS. May have been faulty wiring but whatever it was, it caught on fire and burnt a hole into the right side quarter panel and you could see inside the trunk. You could also see the melted material that was once the panel on the concrete. And then it looked like it was getting to the gas tank and he said it was gonna blow. So everyone started running away. The fire department was called and everything. Sorry and no offense to you or the Cobalt but that's why I stick to older cars. Plus, i don't really feel safe in these Saturn inspired GM's with dent resistant panels since I've discovered a rolling fire hazard. You might want to check into that and make sure there isn't a recall going on.

Unfortunately I have no contact with Ryan(SS/SC that melted) other than the parkinglot we chill in so I cant confirm this but Tron is a close friend of mine and I know he wouldnt tell me about this unless he saw it first hand.

Update, looks like his brake wiring melted due to a short and caught his rearend on fire. It is being fixed under warranty. Should this be a concern?

...Not cool, just has to get my abs/traction sensors and wires replaced because it all cut out (in that location). Dealer said it looked like they were shredded apart.
