saturn irl noob

hey guys my name is kevin and im new to this whole gm deal. i had a boosted honda civic and decided enough was enough when i blew my 2nd tranny under a month and then it started to fall apart slowly. so yeah i picked up a 2004 saturn ion redline with 72k miles on it just to be different. i know the cobalt and ion are very similar but im having a hard time finding parts for the irl. what parts can i buy off sites that are for the cobalt ss that will fit no problem into my ion?

What kind of price did you get on it considering the miles?

the header and dp are interchangable....

pulleys can be swapped as well as internals ... the catback will interchange too but the redline exhaust is 2-3" longer.. and the last hanger setup is slightly different..

also there is a forum called redlineforums (be careful they bite there.. ) as well as ion forums which deal with ions and can help you out as well as here they have a supporting vendors section that would be a great place to look

basically almost all of the engine upgrades will be the same with the exception of the cold air intake and maybe a couple others. there is only one cold air intake (k&n) made for the redline. same goes with most of the suspension upgrades, almost all will fit such as traction bars and sway bar endlinks, progress rear sway bar, bwoody rear strut bar and such. strut tower braces are different for both cars. springs are usually sold as being specific for either car.

there are many differences between these cars, but it is essentially the same thing. oh, and pretty much none of the exterior/interior looks and aesthetics are the same

get in touch with Mike at New Era Performance Parts. they are right there in Rochester and a vendor on the site. He can set you up with anything you want

yea they do, the redline has the same motor as the ss/sc, so pretty much all the lsj stuff should work just fine.

rotors, dp header, exhaust if your willing to do a little bit of work and then any pulley upgrades or heat exchanger type things.

now for you yours is an 04 so i know the mounts for engine and tranny are different.

okay well i got a 2.8 pulley, 60s, and a tune from new era. and a couple months later she finally went haha. i believe i blew the rings on cyl. 4. i did a compression test. dry test showed no compression and the wet test compression jumped up then faded. started pulling the motor apart i got the supercharger off, fuel rail, injectors, valve cover, and i started on the intake mani before i went to work. is there a write up on how to remove the head and the other components? i got the gm build book but its not helping me much.

[p.s. sorry guys ive been whoring out on rlf.com but havent got much help from there. you will probably be seeing me on this more hah.]

You must not be looking very hard on RLFs. There is a sticky with the information you are looking for.

http://www.ionforums.com/forums/678459-post33.html

You have the wrong book. See chapter 6.
