The new Scion tc has what the Cobalt needs, a hatchback and fold down seats. It also has 4whl disc with abs and 160hp for $16k list price. What ever happened to the Pontiac Piranha? It had an easy washout interior, the whole roof opened up, and a supercharged engine. A trunk and fold down back seat don't quite get it sometimes.

At first I did not like the idea of these new cars, but now they are growing on me. I like the TC. I hope Scion proves reliable in the long run and it’s not just another KIA.

I was set on buying the TC until I saw the Cobalt SS S/C. After adding a S/C , 18' wheels, and leather to a TC your price will be comparable or higher than that of the Cobalt.
As far as it being like a Kia.... Toyota makes Scion. I spent a lot of time researching them and I have test drove one myself. I personally like the interior of the Cobalt better and the exterior of the TC better.
If you cant afford the SS S/C Cobalt----the T/C is a better buy IMO.

The tC seems like a good deal... of course the cost of ownership could be more than it seems when compared with a Cobalt... if you can wait untill the summer of 05 to buy a Cobalt its a near lock to get 0% financing or low lease rates. Of course Toyota will not offer any financing near that level as shown with the Matrix/Vibe, as I look down my purchase rates guide I'm seeing a whole lot of 0's untill I run at the Toyota controlled Vibe rates at 4.9.
Overall though, I'm still impressed with the tC. I love the hatchback, and the interior and customization potential is great. But my money is still going to be held for the Cobalt.

It is true that Scion(Toyo) has ridiculous rates. The best rate I have heard on the Scion so far for 5 years is in the mid 5%'s. However, for $1200 you can get a 7 yr/100,000 mile warranty that covers EVERYTHING on the Scion. GM will never be able to offer something that secure.
