This seem right?

Well i jsut got my new 17' rims and tires but sullivan tire just quoted me 200$ to mount tires on teh rim and balance them without putting them on my car. Now when i got winter tires put on my stock rims the dealer charged me 60$. Is it that big of a difference from 16 stockers to 17 aftermarket rims? what did some of you guys pay to have them mounted and balanced?

that is a total rip off. do NOT pay $200 for that....it should be free with the purchase of your tires

Mount and balance 4 tires: 30 minutes of labor MAX. Typical shop labor rate: $50/hour.

Balancing should be quite cheap. Most places that sell tires will include lifetime rotations and balancing for free or a small price. If you do have to pay, like Zinner said, based on labor costs it shouldn't cost you more than $25-$50 tops.

I agree that $200. for mounting\balancing is a total rip-off. Tell them to stick that and that for that they loose all future business as well.

In california labor an hour is 80-100 dollars so the local shops charge like 15-25 dollar a wheel to mount and balance. 200 is way to much.

For a tire 55 series & up that would be reasonable. I have guys in my shop that can do 4 tires in 20 minutes.

P215/45R17 even with the proper machine easily takes twice that time unless you don't care about damaging the bead of the tire in or the customers rim. Sticky weights will take longer as well to ensure they stay put if you care about your work.
