invest the money into your ls. theres something about a little self-satisfaction of getting things done yourself and seeing and enjoying the final product first hand.

I had plans to be a 06 SS/SC couple years ago, when I first set up this account. I was making plenty of money to pay for a car payment and insurance.. Then realized if I ever wanted to get laid on a daily basis I would have to move out and splurge on other things. So, I spent a lot of time looking on line for a quality USED car for around 5k. Wound up with a 97 GTP, got all the luxury speed and oooh ahhhs from the girls that most people buy these 20k cars for. Only difference is I paid 15k less. Think smart, there are other options, you don't make a lot of money.

Do you really want to work for a depreciating pile of **** for the next 5 years when you could coast through life easier and still drive a car you enjoy?

Worst comes to worst, invest $800 on a quality speed shop and a wet shot that will make your car dip into the 13's.

I've done some more research and come to me senses and took the SS/SC out of the picture.

So i though about an srt-4. I'm going to be working two jobs for the next couple of months(35 hours at my new job, and 16 hours at the job I've been at 2 years) until school. and i will be promised part time job down near the state college next fall. so my monthly income AFTER taxes will be $1650 a month, I know it's not a lot, but it's way more than I make now.

If I could get an srt4 and insurance under $600(I got a quote for $245 insurances a month w/ srt4) a month, I'd have plenty of money save, I know for a fact that I wont spend my money on stupid **** if I'm working two jobs. I'm going down tomorrow to look at this srt4 that I might be able to get it for 13k. (04 Completely stock, no tint or CAI blah blah blah.... 60k miles)Oh yeah, the second job might help convince my dad to not be so pissed at me for looking at a new car

And to people that say I'm to young to have a fast car and I'll use it irresponsibly, I see where you're coming from, but 7 months ago I almost recked my LS trying to be cool up on some mountain roads. I kind of got a reality check and ever sense than I realized that racing and unsafe driving is not worth lives, property and tickets. Beleave me or not, but losing control and crashing really sticks in the back of your head and it's hard to forget it.

Thanks for ALL the post guys.

Word ^^ I still don't see why kids our age (I'm 20) want to stick themselves with these crazy car payments that in 2 years, they will get bored of the car and not even have the depreciated value of the car paid for. Not only that, but with an 04 Neon you have no warranty, the things going to blow up once you get the boost bug. Find something you love for around 5k, and save your money. I bought a GTp for the sole reason of getting a crotch rocket in summer.. Best of both worlds for under 10k.

I want to get a new car because all I think about all day are cars. I narrowed it down to an srt4 or a cobalt ss/sc. The cobalt is 06 g85 6k miles for 16.999 and I'm sure i can get it down 500 or more ($285 a month). I could get an srt4 for 13k and have more money to mod($230 a month). I'll also have $1000 down because I'll trade in my 06 ls that i owe only 7k on.

I don't have any bills other than car right now and I'm sure I will be paying my insurance with a faster car and a few bucks for rent to live at home. I plan on going to state college next year and I'll get a part time job then

Should I get a car I'll love? or think about having a ss all day?
your not making that much, school is more expensive than you think, its harder to work 40 hours a week and get all your school done (considering you should be taking 15-18 hours a week)
not to mention, new cars are money pits, after 3 years you've lost a good 50% of the car's value

You never heard the "you only live once" line?

I'm 26 and I own two car payments which total nearly $900 a month ALONE.

A 2008 Canyon 4x4 and a 2005 Cobalt SS/SC

I thought I was nuts but I work a really good job with good pay so I can afford my goodies, house etc because of it.

You can do what you want. But I'd get an SRT4... Don't get me wrong, I love my Cobalt SS/SC but it has more problems then an srt. Make sure you got the job long enough and have some extra money in case something happens..

a car is not an investment. you can't invest money into your vehicle.

your car should be your hobby, not a debt instrument. I'm graduating in May, and the ONLY reasons I purchased my car last year was being

1) my previous car **** the bed and was unreliable and i needed reliable transportation
2) i was able to pay for 1/4 of it up front, and the remaining balance i put on a 2% loan with deferred payments until after I commission.

You don't want to worry about money when you have 3 papers, 4 finals and 2 presentations in two weeks worth of class.

stick with the ls, you will be happier.

Seriously don't switch up cars for college. I drove a 78' chevy silverado throughout college, it didn't interfere with me getting sex, and I spent that money on more important things, so that when I graduated college, I had ZERO debt, NONE. No loans, credit cards, nothing.
Then I went into the hole with my new Cobalt, LOL. Oh well. At least I don't have to worry about getting my degree or losing my car.
