Snow..
Hey, i'm new here. I'm looking to buy an SS supercharged, but...was wondering how many of you drive them all year round and how they are in the snow... I assume they're not too good, but, just curious. If i do buy one, I definately will need it all year, so...any advice is welcome (such as: "DON'T buy one! they suck in the snow!)...HA

Definately get a good set of winter tires and you'll be good. They're actually very good in the snow. I had no problems when I was stock. Now they im modded a bunch more the traction is harder to come by, but still not too bad.
Here'e a few pics of mine from last year. The first in the middle of winter, and the last two in the spring just as it was all melting away...

Actually I found it pretty easy to get around in winter.. Just don't drive like and idiot.. Anything FWD with a clutch is easy, just don't expect to drive through deep snow. I drove around for 3 winters, one on stock pirellis and two with Kuhmo spt (max perf. summer). Occasionally I would have some trouble getting going from a stop sign. It was a lot easier to drive in ice than my truck, even in 4wd. Not a big deal as long as you don't live in the middle of nowhere..
I'd rather deal with summer tires than deal with ugly ass steelies or snow tires, unless it was absolutely necessary. ^ that looks awful. I live in the Midwest, winter can get bad, but like I said I haven't had a problem.

yeah, my redline was terrifying in the snow on summer tires, but acceptable on all-seasons and it's a tank with winter tires on! i was passing subarus on the highway in the thick of a snowstorm.
highly recommend winter tires.

To all those whom drive in the snow with summer only tires, your gonna end up hurting someone or yourself when you roll into something. Who cares if steelies don't look A+. It doesn't matter. You should be more worried about safety.

When there is ice, there is ice, no snow tires will save you. Smart driving > equipment. Honestly I am more concerned with some idiot driver in a 4x4 running into me. I know the limits and my local roads. I have driven a lot of cars in the winter, and many with winter tires. I had just as much control in the ss. I'll let you know if I hit someone.
Keep in mind I don't live in Canada or areas where you get 752 meter of snow..

cobalts are wicked in the winter. especially since some have the limited slip and others have the leather w/ some of them having heated seats!!! make sureee u get winter tires. my buddy has a ss/na and leaves his all seasons on and get stuck everywhere but ive never been stuck w/ my winter tires on my car and i live in alberta... canada. if your worried about looks get sum sick wheels from the classifieds on this site. either the old redlines 17s or like wheels from the na ss's. you can find them for like 200 bucks... probably in some cases cheaper than steelies

Alright, thanks again! I definately plan on getting some stealies with full winter tires. Not chancing it. Ok, well i've been looking at a few SS's, pricing from about $10k-$13K, mileage about 40-70K...anything in particular i should look out for when i test drive/look them over?

i drive my ss/sc all year. i have a set of hhr 16" mags with snowies. as i can get a ride to and from work when its snowing, i still get caught ocasionally in snow. last year i got caught in a snowstorm and one hill near my house was very bad, people abandoning cars and walking, i drove right around them with only getting slightly stuck for a couple minutes because some guy wouldnt run the yellow light.
