Speed Governors?

I know this is ignorant of me, but I haven't been able to find any info on it. I have an '06 Cobalt SS/SC, and I was wondering if anybody knows if they are equipped with governors. I am assuming that they are not.

They are called ESL (Electronic Speed Limitors). Most if not all vehicles have then unless they are police interceptors.

SS/SC and I would assume SS/TC as well are drag limited, not electronically limited. All other Cobalts have electronic limiters depending on what OEM tires they have.

Wow. I've googled it using both terms (governor and electronic speed control) and it's just not bringing anything up...It's rather frustrating. I'm in the process of converting to stage 2 and I want to take it to the track and open it up.

Car and Driver shows a drag limited top speed of 160 in one of their tests for the SS/TC, I cannot remember the issue. Usually the governors are for vehicles w/ lower speed rated tires.

i read somewhere that the sc cobalts are drag limited at 141 and the re not governed because of the Z rated tires that come factory

you should be worried about the limit if your going to a drag track, or are you goingto a race track

SS/TC and SS/SC are electronically limited to 158mph....but with HPT you can turn that off.

SS/SC are set stock to cut off at 155 and fuel cut out is at 158 or something like that, but HP tuners can cut that out. If you need to go that fast, you may want to get rid of your cobalt and get something different like a 10 speed, unless your on the drag strip, no need to go that fast, especially in a near equipped car like ours are.

Yeah, I'm looking to go to a drag track...just depends. I just want to open it up somewhere and not worry about heat.

Thanks for all the replies. It's been helpful. I really want to see what it can do, especially after I get the stage 2 kit. I don't even know if there's a track near me where I could even reach top speed anyway.
