Thumbs up SS kicks a$$ on track

Well Im not sure anyone posted this but in the last issue of Car and Driver the cobalt ss/sc absolutely destroyed the GTi and Si and even beat the Mustang GT on Virginia International Raceway, a very challenging 4.2 mile road course.

350Z Track- 3:12.5
Evolution MR- 3:13.5
RX-8- 3:19.0
Cobalt SS/SC- 3:20.6
Mustang GT- 3:20.9
GTI- 3:25.1
Civic Si- 3:26.5
Mazda MX-5- 3:29.3

I really would like to know now how the GTi and Si always win in performance comparisons vs the SS/SC, I guess the magz love their German/Japanese imports.

well actually no because he didnt include the evo or 350z track edition, which both placed ahead of the cobalt, cobalt did own the fwd part though

Well I added the rest of the LL1 class. Surprised the Evo lost to the Z, they said the brakes on the Evo sucked which is odd since the both use Brembo's which are probably very similar.

hmm those results look odd. there is no way that the 350 should be a full second ahead of the MR. MR's are sick on the road courses. i mean, the 350 can handle really really well, but not like the MR. if im not mistaken, MR's can outhandle a mercialago.

They said it had a lot to do with the turbo lag as well as the brakes fading after a couple laps. The Evo pulled an avg of .94g's while the 350z avg'd .90g's, so the Evo did out handle it but I'm sure the lag killed it's exit speeds.

I'm not surprised that the 350Z track won. The new 350s are very respectable with 305hp and a solid 3.5L V6. They have a pretty good suspension package too and if you've ever driven one, they're very fun (great stock exhaust tone too). I'm surprised that the cobalt was that close to the RX8 though. I know they're slow but they handle very well (rx8s i mean).

MRs can outhandle a mercialago because the weigh about 500lbs less. when are people going to realize that evos are overrated and the 4g63 motor sucks.

The MR is 1/100th of a second behind the 350z! Not 1 full second.

EDIT: My bad, it is 1 second!

when you lay down the crack pipe probably! that was not an evo mr on top gear first off it was the fq400 or something like that, which im sure had upgraded handling components as well as motor work. just because the 350 beat the evo on this track does not mean it would on all road coarses, all cars have their strong points and weak points, this track better suited the 350.

The 4G63 sucks eh? That's why they run them into the 6s and 7s at over 200MPH now right? Moron.

You can get any motor into those numbers if you have enough money to throw at it. I say this having owned one previously (1st gen eclipse). Not only that but just because a motor makes good power doesn't make it great. The 4g63 motor (hopefully the newer versions of this motor dont have this problem) very unreliable.
