SS problem

The car started fine, everything normal. When I pulled onto the street, my security light comes on. My a/c stopped working, and my cc also quit working. I pulled into a gas station parking lot to turn the car off, and restart, sthinking maybe I just need to reset everything. Then the damned car doesn't start! So i call Onstar, and they couldn't help cuz there was no CEL. As I was waiting for them to put a GM mechanic on the "phone", I tried starting it again, and it came on. Everything was great again. A/C worked fine. When I got on the freeway, the light came back on, and a/c quit and cc quit again. The car drives fine though, no engine troubles or stalling. When i get to work, I call my dealer and the guy seemed pretty knowledgable. He knew right away what it might be (which is a bad sign). he said it was most likely some electrical problems in the steering column, like ignition or something. Gonna bring it in tomorrow.

Anyone else have this prob?

Not on my Cobalt, thank goodness. But on it's really big brother, my Tahoe. They thought the same thing steering column had a short. Turned out to be under the hood instead. While manufacturing the vehicle the factory trashed the main fuse board, shattered it into many little peices. Every bump caused different things to fail intermitantly. You might want to have them check it, just to make sure its not cracked.

Good luck.

Yea my security light turned on once when i was driving and then when i turned the car off and let it sit everything was back to normal. I also have prob with the ebrake handle being too loose and the light for the brake sometimes turining on and my exhaust rattles a little after driving for a while. Im gonna have all that checked when i go to get my oil changed. All the prob are small and that is why they make warranty's

Maybe the short is coming from the HVAC system which is causing the security light to come on. This is probably why you're not getting a CEL. Maven to the rescue???

Well, the fan's still work, but they just blow hot air instead of cold when the light comes on.

I havent come across this problem myself, although I only have about 2,500 on the odo, so only time can tell. I do however have a broken muffler on my ss/sc, which I'm still waiting to have fixed. I also had a stripped out bolt hole for one of the speakers on the trunk lid, the speaker would rattle like crazy untill the dealership rethreaded it.

BTW, this broken muffler thing is getting out of hand...something is busted internaly and it sounds so god awefull I can't take it anymore. Sounds like a can of pissed off bees...

Oh the woes of having the first year of a new model.

My muffler sounded like that to. I waited for two weeks and the dealer said that it would be another six weeks to get a new muffler. I called GM customer service and told them that I keep getting pulled over for the sound.....they had one for my car in two days. Give it a try.

I have that too. Took about a week for the dealer to get the part in. They said it could be 2-3 weeks, but it showed up in 5 bus days. I think the 3-week thing is just them overestimating so as not to **** you off.
